what job should I give each character?
how the heck do you defeat the liquid flame boss? I've tried 4 times now and I get dominated each time, each character is level 16 btw

It really depends. I'd generally make sure you have someone capable of all types of magic, though not necessarily the same person. In my game, I have a summoner with barehanded/white magic(depending on situation), a dragoon/ black mage with white magic, A mystic knight/blue mage with dual wield, and a ranger/ninja with steal. 
As far as liquid flame...if he's the boss I'm thinking of, hit him with bizzara, and blizzara strike from mystic knight, and if you have it (don't remember if you do yet) Shiva until he cries. Healing up whenever he takes the form of a tornado.

A good team to have is a Black Mage, a White Mage, a Knight, and a Monk.

Other good classes to have are Red Mages, Monks, and Summoners (if you have that one yet)

Cast blizzard spells on Liquid Flame, and be sure to have your mages in the back row at all times so they take minimal damage as you are attacked.
