Hello everybody!
As you know, I am not only a game player, I am also a very potent game MAKER ( at least in terms of 2-D games, I still have a lot to learn about 3-D games ), thanks to a program called GameEditor. Through it, I have released multiple games, including the Air Raid series, and Felix The Cat ( which was heavily based on the NES 1992 game ). However, now I'm taking it to the next level by making my first mainstream game, based entirely on Felix The Cat, and also in honor of DreamWorks Animations acquiring Felix, Felix The Cat 2. I hope to help re-boost Felix's popularity through this game, which will be using completely original sprites, several game play styles, as well as a few odds and ends not seen in the NES game.
I would show you a snapshot of what I have accomplished so far, but it appears Vizzed doesn't allow you to post pictures in forum threads, so sadly, this is impossible. You will have to ask me for a link to my deviantART account where I have two snapshots, as well as the Title Screen image I will be using, posted for public view. So for now, here is what I've accomplished:
- 4 different coin types, all of which give you points, as well as help refill your health bar. - Checkpoints to mark each stages halfway point. - Several transformations into some of Felix's magic bag vehicles, all of which give him certain advantages and disadvantages ( for example, the car can jump very high and move quickly, but cannot ride through spikes, while the tank plows through spikes, enemies, fireballs, heck, EVERYTHING, like their nobody's business, but can't jump as high as Felix on foot ), as well as a magic bar to track how much longer you can remain transformed before returning to normal. - A timer, just like an old retro game ( most notably Felix The Cat on NES ), which kills you and sends you back to the beginning of the stage or to a checkpoint IF it hits "0". Luckily, there is a clock you can pick up to add another minute of time ( 60 seconds, since it counts your time in seconds, which always starts at 300 seconds at the beginning of every level ). - A health bar, unlike my last Felix game, which is made in a similar fashion to the "POWER" meter in Super Mario 64: A silhouette of Felix's head with the word "FELIX" in it, as well as the actual health gauge. Picking up coins and hearts will restore it. And no matter how much health he has, Felix always behaves and controls the exact same. Like Lance Armstrong, without the steroids. - Although I'm not a HUGE story guy, I do have somewhat of a story I can use for the game. Felix's girlfriend Kitty Kat is kidnapped, he needs to save her, and blah blah blah. Pretty much the same stuff as the NES game, so I won't bother explaining it IF you've played it. - All the sprites ( minus Felix's and the extra life's sprite, which were taken directly from the NES game ), are going to be hand-made by yours truly. Of course, if you have some sprites you would like to submit ( sprites of bosses and enemies would be greatly appreciated ), please PM me and I will send you the link to get them to me. Of course, all contributors will have their name's in the end credits at the end of the game ( although whether or not you want me to use your username on a website or use your real name is up to you ).
I have accomplished more then this, but this is the main bread and butter of what I have done so far, so there is more to come. While I am by no means an "Expert" at GameEditor, I am learning how to do new things every time I fire it up ( it took me a few tries to get the health system right ). So if you have any ideas or suggestions for the game, feel free to let me know below, and I will be sure to consider them while I'm making the game. Or if you just want to discuss Felix The Cat ( his recent move to DreamWorks Animation is certainly one to discuss ), go on ahead. I won't bite. Just remember to follow the Vizzed Rules! I don't need to worry about rule breakers when I'm already worrying about what to do for each of the worlds of the game.
Of course, my computer is a Windows 7 ( but it also has Linux capabilities ), so while I can do a lot with the game, I can only take it so far without bursting the limits of my computer. I need to be careful with how I structure and design the game. Also, I don't have a team of people helping me with the design. The sprite work, backgrounds, background music, sound effects, level design, menu design, and scripting ALL has to be done by me. Trust me, if I had help making this game, I would have gone to get it a long time before I even started. But sadly, I have to swim solo for this one. But you guys can help me by telling me how to do certain things I haven't been able to figure out yet or just can't do in general.
So, now your up to date on what's going on with me and why I haven't been on Vizzed in a while ( I have other things I want to prioritize right now ), so don't be surprised if I'm away for several days in a row. Making games takes a lot of time and patience, and one wrong move could cost me days of work, and if worst comes to worst, this project may get pushed back until close to 2015, which I really don't want to do. So forgive me if I disappear for a while. I want to get this game done, preferably in time for DreamWorks Animations big whatever their going to do with Felix to re-launch his popularity, which might not be long from now.
Thanks for reading everybody, and I will see you soon. Hello everybody!
