I think something is wrong with YouTube and their ever-growing problems.

Right now I cannot get sound on any video at the site but my sound is working fine on mylaptop.

Has anyone encountered this or anything similar ?

This isn't a new problem to Youtube.

Here's what I usually do.

1. Refresh the page. If this doesn't work after 5 attempts...
2. Clear cookies/history/cache. If this doesn't work...
3. Restart computer. Then, my last ditch plan...
4. Use a different browser.

It "should" work then, but if it doesn't, the issue is likely something with how your computer interacts with Youtube. Or it could be a bad day for Youtube. Those happen when you have millions of users on a daily basis.

try updating the audio drivers. my drivers are from Realtek, it might be compatible with your Windows.

you installed the audio codecs? The youtube can not work because with this audio track that is not supported.

DARKFURIA : You know, I actually didn't know that they had an HTML5 player - I'm going to look into that for use rather than flash because I have firefox set to ask to activate flash and it's annoying after a while. If I can do away with flash I'd be happy - it consumes too much CPU for me at times.

tRUINE: Actually, its not that weird. If you click on a video that has either been deleted or violates some copyright stuff, like those videos for movies that only show you a link, then most of the time, every video you play after that will load muted for a certain amount of time. Glad it was fixed though.
