Man... if you had set these auctions up later, I totally would have bidded on at least ten of them.  

But the timing is really, really bad...... what with taxes due in a few days and all....
I have nothing to spare, and I'm sure many are in my situation.

Singelli : I'm in a similar situation as you with taxes, I also have to pay in and a lot. This is also the perfect time of year to sell though since a lot of people do get tax returns and therefore have a lot of extra spending money.

Singelli : Is it common for a teacher to have to pay in? I have to because I'm self employed.

David sir, What are some of dreamcast games do you own? do you have powerstone?

Oh my, your Flitstones game doesn't seem like it will get you $2000 by the time the auction ends.

Mistress : From years of experience with Ebay, most bids take place in the final hour and especially in the final minute. Flintstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak may be at only $1,075.00 right now but it will probably really take off on Sunday.

There's 2 other guys on Ebay selling the game in the box (which is shocking because usually there's only 1 or 2 people at a time selling the game in the box).

This guy is asking $2500 for it and mine is in better condition

I've got probably $1200 invested into the game (I bought the game and box separately with the intents to resell it someday for a profit) so anything above $1300 is profit but I'm really hoping to get between $1800-$2000 for it, hopefully $2000 though since that would really help me out with taxes. Before I put the item as an auction, I had it as a Buy it Now and let people submit offers to me and I think the highest offer I got was $1500 but I declined it since I know I can get more than that for it.

Davideo7 :  Typically.... it's not normal for a teacher to pay in.... at least... I don't think it is and don't hear of many teachers that have to.   However, I have had to pay in EVERY year... and often very crazy amounts.  I finally asked H&R why that was last year, and they said I was told to file my forms incorrectly when I was first hired.  I went to HR around November and asked them about it..... They told me a change I could make, so after paying last year's taxes, I'm going to see if things look good tomorrow.  I'm hoping the new paperwork fixed the under-taxed issue, but I'm not holding my breath.  Personally.... considering that 40-50% of my paycheck is consumed by necessary fees/payments/taxes, I find it quite ludicrous that I was being UNDERtaxed....

Singelli : That's too bad, I really wish you could get that figured out. I really miss the days of getting a nice tax return lol.

Do you think you will hold any more auctions in the future?  Perhaps in the summer?  I really, really wish I could have taken advantage of some of these.  Even though I'm not a gaming nerd, some of these were just too good to pass by. I especially would have loved the lot with the arctic gameboy + games. XD  What a steal!

Singelli : I might sell more stuff in the summer but we'll see. I'm sure I'll be selling games around this time next year again because knowing my luck, I'll be behind on taxes again lol. Of course, you wouldn't be able to buy at that time either since you'll be owing in on taxes as well.

Good thing I don't have to pay taxes yet I couldn't do all of this.
I will see what I can get, and see what the bids are for some of the games/ packs and see if I can pick up any.

Barathemos : Yeah keep an eye on them tomorrow night when they're all finalizing, who knows, some may end for almost nothing.

It was a terrible day on ebay for me, I guess I learned my lesson not to ever set the starting bid to 1 penny. I probably got less than half of what I was expecting on everything and took some huge financially losses

I guess the only positive was that I was able to sell enough to pay for taxes but wow did I take a loss.

If I want to sell something for a certain price, I go to places like Amazon. (Of course, I never sell, so...)

You may be taking a risk, and not having people bid higher than what you expect, but it's the safe route, and unless you are an extremely well known seller, and selling something a lot of people want (video games frequently go cheaper than expected) you are almost certain to take a loss on eBay.

At least you got to pay your taxes.

I've been wanting to post on this thread for days.  FINALLY!  haha

okay, first.. David, about my taxes:  Jason lost his W-2 form, and decided to wait until last day to file, despite me urging him for months not to wait.  Thus, I don't even know if we're getting a return or what. We'll be left clueless until he can get extra copies and we pay the late fine.  *sighs *

Also, I was really worried about that when I saw all those auctions still set at 1 penny. I was really, really hoping that would change by the end of the auctions.  *sighs * I'm sorry that it worked out that way... I know that had to be a hard lesson to learn, even though you got enough to pay your taxes.  There are some very happy people out there right now....

Did the Flinstones game go for more than $2000 like you thought?

legacyme3 : I actually usually have good success, I almost never set the starting bid to 1 cent but it got to the point where I had only a week left to sell stuff so I had to make sure everything sold. I guess when you sell out of desperation, that's when you're probably going to take a loss.

Singelli : The Flintstones game only went for like $1350 which sucks because I was offered $1500 and I turned it down thinking I could get higher and if I hadn't put the starting bid at a penny, I probably could have got closer to $2000. I ended up taking a loss on the game after $135 worth of ebay fees on that game alone

Wow.. that really sucks. I'd probably beat myself up over that too. What's with the ebay fees? O.o I've never really used it... that's 10% of what you sold it for!
