Let me start this out by saying, I'm a pretty nice person.

Even if people don't agree with me I can still make friends and build bridges. Yeah, we might fight from time to time, but the wounds made aren't anything time can't heal.

But if ANYTHING bad happens to Westboro Baptist Church members I find myself laughing at their pathetic misfortune. I literally hate them more than Satan. So I was really happy to find out they were chased out of Moore, Oklahoma this weekend.

Moore was hit by a deadly tornado last year, and the school the protest was happening at has been housing Plaza Towers Elementary students since the natural disaster. On their website, WBC explained that they believe the tornado was an example of "God's wrath."

But the people of Moore just collectively said "NOPE" and kicked out the church after only 8 minutes of them being there with their signs.

I think that's beautiful. Frankly, I don't think the WBC deserves police protection considering they abuse their freedom of speech right in order to spread their hatred.

Do you guys think the WBC deserves the right to picket? Are they giving christians a bad name?

Here's a link to the video. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/07/westboro-baptist-church-moore-oklahoma_n_5104904.html

I saw WBC I thought you meant World Baseball Classic.

I can't support the Westboro folks and I think what they do and how they go about it is embarrassing, offensive, and nearly abusive.  But they get their first amendment right to picket if they want as long as they respect the distances set by law.  The wiggle room is there because they have messages of hate and they can be loosely thrown into the conversation with groups like the Black Panthers and KKK but they, WBC, don't rely on violence.

I fully support folks who maltreat them, though.  I'm totally fine with them getting hit by snowballs, waterballons, and non fatal weapons.  As long as you're killing them and not doing *serious* bodily harm, help yourselves.  They're hateful, angry people and they have no respect for others.  They're an embarrassment to any religious group.

NVTaks :

I would first like to point out that any group with any beliefs will have their crazies and embarrassing people in them. As for a tornado being God's wrath. I do not know. Although I suppose the crowd would want me to agree with them that these Christians, (or "Christians" I don't know . . . yet) are evil and unGodly, I would have to look into the whole situation before making an assessment and calling anyone out.

Unfortunately, I have not really heard of these people before, so I wouldn't know.

I do think that God judges people in many different ways, and I know that people don't like hearing it, but God hates certain sins. Unfortunately, it may be possible for me to know what's really going on here. I would have to know what the school is doing, and that information is often disclosed.

Sometimes an entire country is sinning and God punishes only one part of it as a warning. Not saying that's what's happening, here, I have NO idea.

Maybe I'll look it up. . . it's just the internet has so much garbage mixed in with the facts and it can be really hard to tell.

One time I asked God why a hurricane would take out an entire neighborhood.

I heard one word, I think it was from God, but I'm not 100% sure, I might actually be 0% sure, I might have been my own subconscious, I have a hard time interpreting the Holy Spirit sometimes, but this is what I heard.

"porn"

A lot more people do than we think sometimes. :/

Once again, I don't want people to think that I'm speaking the words of God. I am not claiming that at all. But I doubt God is very happy with our country. I mean, This story is something that you may not want to read, so, read with cation.

In one college, a woman dressed like the pope, but didn't wear any p****, or p*****. she went around h*** n***d and passed out ******* (I can hardly stand typing this!). I wonder how much God can take of this before he wipes us off the face of the earth. Please don't bring attention to this fact if you can help it. This a family friendly site. And I'd prefer NOT to discuss it. :/

So I looked into it a bit more. First and foremost, I have a distaste for the Huffington post, only because I read a book recently and the author had a fair distaste for it, and the author was pretty smart.

Okay, here's my research so far:

-1 They claim that God hate's flags. I doubt this is true. God assisted the formation of our country, and without Him, I doubt that the U.S. would ever exist. How else could we take on the British? The French did help, but They were certainly not the deciding factor. Also, God has protected the Jewish state, Israel. I doubt that God would hate symbol of unity (a flag). A flag represents a group of people. The group can be good or bad. God does not hate something that is good or bad depending on how it is used, unless, perhaps is meant to be used for something bad exclusively. But even inventions with more evil intentions can be used in good ways. Some objects are tainted with sin to the point that they must be destroyed, like a porn magazine, but even that can be throw into a fire to create heat.

On the spiritual side of things. Some things are so sinful that they can create a dark spiritual atmosphere, like Pagan religious items. (depending) which we ought to destroy. Once, there was a time When King Saul took lands from Israels enemies, and God had specified to not keep any of the animals they found. Who knows why, maybe they had terrible disease from different kinds of abuse and neglect that made them unfit for breeding and eating. But Saul decided to sacrifice the best of them to God. God was not pleased, and punish Saul for this. If I recall, I think that he said that He would take away Saul's kingdom.

Oops. apparently what it says it "God hates Fags", not Flags! I guess my brain tried to take a shortcut again! Oh well, I don't think that they should trample a flag like they did though, I mean, That flag stands for a lot of good things too ya know. Every one is a shade of gray, I think that God wants us to restore people more than condemn them. But legal homosexuality, no way around it, is pretty sick.

The other news source I found on this sure has a lot of liberal slant, but Oh well, it's a free country, if I had a news source, I guess that I would put my beliefs in it as well. I'm reading Eonline. com.

Gotta love the add on this site "Julia Louis- Dreyfus gets naked, and she looks fantastic on rolling stone!"

Great moral people writing this article. . . or running this site. . .

I think I'll move to the next place to look for info. . . If I could find another one!

Finally, their own website, now I can get to both sides of the issue!

So that is Fred Phelps, I've heard of him, mostly form rabid biology teachers, very interesting guy.

-2 They are right about the homosexual movement destroying America. In Leviticas 15, God shows us just how dangerous male discharge is. And the Jew, because the follow God's laws, have historically been some of the cleanest people on the planet. And they are right about Sodom and Gamorah being God's divine judgement. But, in the ruins site that we found of Sodom and Gamorah in The Middle East, we found balls of sulfur in the ashes and remains. These sulfur balls, when lit on fire would let out a toxic gas that would knock someone out, these means that the inhabitants of Sodom and Gamorah would have had a relatively painless death. Even in judgment, out God is merciful. In this act, God may have stopped an AIDS epidemic before modern medicine existed and could slow it down. We have found a total of four sites that were destroyed in the same fashion as Sodom. Two of them being Sodom and Gamorah.

Homosexual parades, are not really necessary, I mean, please. Show some decency. Please don't parade a topic like that when it makes people want to throw up. Don't accuse others of being in your face, when you put homosexuality in others face.

-3

They are anti semetic it seems. Yeah, they are. And they are wrong about that. No one should say that God hates the jews. Without the Jews, we wouldn't have Christians. Jew and gentile are able to believe in the messiah. Everyone has at least one chance. . . to be saved in their life. And those who are too young go to Heaven anyways.

-- Final observation --

I don't know everything that's going on. These people have a theology that I think is flawed. I think that there is to much judgement and not enough mercy, something that Jesus showed often. Yes Jesus was harsh to the Pharisees, but I think that this was because they were the religious leaders, the protectors of truth, and they rather made their own system. God in the end will be the judge of who is right an who is wrong. I have decided for my perspective that their Theology is wrong, and lacking in an important trait of God's character. Mercy, and love. Nevertheless, I think that these people may be used by God to accomplish his goals, just like God takes persecution, and uses it to make his people stronger, or how God allowed the evil Assyrians to punish Israel, and then God punished the Assyrians, or He took away Israels protection from the Assyrians. I'm not sure exactly. Either way, evil people pronounced His judgement, and God will continue to use them for just that. They may be wrong, but not totally useless. God Will Judge everyone who is to be judged. For better, or for worse, but always in justice. That concludes my post. have a nice day, I hope you don't hate me NVTaks! I hope you like this observation! :3 And thank you for taking the time to read this! XD

Sword legion : I'm gonna be 100% honest I got lost in a very huge wall of text on your post so I probably didn't read it as thoroughly as I should have. XD

But I think I got the gist of it. I just wanna say that I didn't mean for this post to be against christians in any way. I like Christians, for the most part they're pretty chill and love-filled and whatnot, it's just that these crazies really get to me sometimes.

And it's nice to see them fleeing in fear from people standing up in protest to their actions.

Fools running away from angry mobs? Sounds fun.

XD

Yeah, I don't recommend reading it to closely, it has a fair amount of mistakes anyways. I'm not a Christian, but I do follow the Bible, mostly . . . though I say that cautiously.

My true holy book is the Torah, and I follow the true messiah Yeshua HaMashiach.

No, I was not raised this way, I choose for believe it cause it makes sense when my Dad explained it to me after we were Christians for so long.
All that matters too me is that it all makes sense. XD Ask me questions sometime! I love topics like this. :3

Can we chase these guys out of nation? This is the most obvious case of abusing the system. Protected right to protest is not meant for people to harass.

Txgangsta : As difficult as it may be, look at it from WBC's point of view. If what they say is to be believed and it's not a front for money and media attention, then they truly believe they are saving souls by protesting this hate speech. They truly believe that if nobody preaches the "dangers of homosexuality and [the Christian] God's hatred for it" then America is doomed. So, to them, maybe it isn't hate speech, but they're just trying to help. They sure do like a lot of media attention, though, so I'm not sure if that's plausible.

And if you dig deep into the dark parts of the internet, you'll find that there are actually people who are not members of their church, but who support the WBC in all they do. I'm not kidding. Granted, nearly all of those people are far-right bigoted advocates for anti-homosexuality, but the point is that there are people out there who like the WBC.

So what I'm saying is that we shouldn't eliminate the WBC's right to protest, even if they choose to do so at what seems like the most inopportune moments full of sadness (funerals, disasters, etc). If we eliminate their right to protest, even in awful settings, we set the standard for another group in the future who may be unpopular to some to have their protesting rights barred. This could happen to a progressive or conservative group if such a standard is created. We can't allow that to happen.

I'm annoyed by the WBC just as much as you are, but I'd fight to the death to defend the right to do the silly nonsense that they do. Their group came to Oregon State University (an hour from me) last year to protest the funeral of a soldier who died in Iraq. At least 1500 people showed up to keep them at bay, myself included, and they never ended up getting out of their van. The Patriot Guard Riders were there, too. In some way, though, I wish they had left their van and come out to protest, because I believe that opinions, even vastly unpopular and hated ones, need to be voiced.

Well... first I want to say that you shouldn't hate anything more than you hate satan.  lol In fact, God wants us to forgive our enemies, which requires a certain level of love on our parts.  Now, I'm NOT condoning WBC at ALL. I think what they do is absolutely disgusting, and yes... gives a horrible name to Christians. I don't even understand how people get messed up in their minds enough to WANT to be that extreme.  Their ideas and motives and actions are just far beyond ludicrous.  If they got kicked out of some place, well good on the kickers.  Maybe it was just a prime example of the 'wrath of God'. XD

Zurenriri :

What they're doing is obviously irrational and does not need to be tolerated. Even if they truly believe they are doing the right thing, it should not be tolerated. No one should tolerate what is so blatantly wrong, and those that choose to tolerate this kind of savagery are also in the wrong (though to a lesser degree). WBC can express the opinions they have, but they don't do it correctly. They are excruciatingly hostile.

I have no problem with people voicing opinions, including those I disagree with, but this has limits. If someone wants to protest because of something actually constructive, they have done exactly what the protest right was meant for. If someone wants to protest simply thinking they are constructive but they aren't, it depends on how ridiculous the proposition is and how they are protesting. The religious demands of WBC are ridiculous, but because they are religious we'll allow it. However, their protests are hostile and they refuse to be dealt with.

Everyone should have enough sense to respect a funeral.

They don't, they're hostile, and that should not be tolerated. We tolerate racists until they start throwing bottles. Protesting at a funeral is worse than throwing bottles.

Toleration is not a virtue. Intolerance is sometimes also the right thing.

Txgangsta : The key is to find out whether or not they truly stand behind their words, or if this is merely a stunt for attention or financial gain. Unfortunately, that can be pretty hard to do.

But the argument you offered in your first paragraph, I could change that setting to the late 19th century and the topic to slavery and racism. There were a lot of people back then who thought whites were superior to blacks and for them to have freedom or the right to vote was utterly incomprehensible, and that any arguments in opposition needed to be silenced. But our society has moved forward since then.

Now, I'm not saying that the WBC's arguments could move us forward, rather, if they had their way, I feel like we'd be in the dark ages again. I may be playing the devil's advocate here, but WBC has done nothing violent at all, so they're within their boundaries.

However, I agree with you that there should be tougher restrictions about protesting near funerals. The current area of restriction isn't broad enough. I think it should be more like 3 miles.
