When I first saw the trailer for the new Need For Speed movie, I went bleh. At first, I told myself that I would never see that movie, even if it was free. The truth is, I do not like  racing movies at all, in fact, I pretty much hate them. I have only seen one Fast and Furious movie and I could not stand it. Other than that, I have not seen another racing movie.

About 2 days before the movie was released, I figured that I had enough money, so I decided to go see a movie. Unfortunately, there was nothing I liked playing when I arrived, so I was stuck with Need For Speed. I figured that if I am going to watch a movie, I might as well watch it the right was, so I watched the movie in ETX. I forgot what ETX stands for, but its supposed to be the next best thing since IMAX.

I sat through the first few minutes, wishing it would end already. Like all racing movies, the movie began with a race, and I did not like it. I thought that the movie started off too slow, sure, it started off with a high speed race, but it was just not my style. It took about 20 minutes before I became interested in the movie, and soon after, I was much more than just interested. If I had to give this movie a grade based on how much better it is than I first expected,  there would only be one other movie that would have a higher score, and it happens to be the 3rd best movie that I have ever seen.

The film was full of great actors. The main protagonist was played by Aaron Paul, who had starred as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad. Paul had done a great job as the driver who is basically trying to bring them man who fled the scene of his friends death to justice. The man who killed his friend, Dino, is played by Dominic Cooper and does a great job with the part. The acting was just great. Both of these characters were able to drive at super high speeds without a care in the world, and the actors made it believable. For acting, I would give this movie an 8 out of 10.

When it comes to effects and sound, this movie was the best. This is a racing movie, which means that every once in a while, there is going to be a high speed chase across a city, in cars that exceed 200 miles per hour. This movie did not fail at that, trees and buildings blurred by as each car roared past, and all of the chase scenes were beautiful.

Actually, to make cars go fast, you don't really need to do much, sure you can use a green screen to show how fast the cars were going, but for the most part, some of the scenes were actually filmed while driving. There were four really good scenes where the graphics played a huge part. The first scene is the race in which the protagonists friend dies in the car crash. The graphics were beautiful in showing how the car flips around in slow motion and then explodes.

The next scene I believe took place in Detroit where the protagonist drove the car off the barricade of the highway, and over the next highway section, over all of the cars. The third scene is when one of the friends filled up his tank with gas while they were driving, by leaning out of the other car next to them. Its pretty much impossible to do that in real life, and I believe it is very illegal. The final scene would be when the car is driven off the edge of the cliff, but is attached to the helicopter.

The effects only can get better then there. While in high speed races, it looked as if the camera was vibrating, and I felt that this was a really good way to show how fast the cars were going. The vibrations made the scene feel more energetic  and made it seem like you were In the car.

Lastly, we can't forget that the movie was in ETX, which took the movie experience to a whole new level. The graphics were much, much clearer and the sound was amplified. Whenever the engine roared, not only was it crystal clear, but you also felt it too as vibrations shook the theatre, and left you speechless. For the graphics, I feel inclined to give this movie a perfect score.

As for the music, there wasn’t really much to it. There were a few song with lyrics and there were a few standard soundtrack songs that were composed by Nathan Furst. Overall, I thought that the music was pretty lame because there wasn’t that much energy to the songs. There was one song that I really liked from the movie and that was Roads Untraveled, by Linkin park. Aside from that, I would not classify this movie as having a good soundtrack and I would give this category a grade of 6 out of 10.

Overall, I feel that this movie was really well made and it turned out to be a lot better than I had expected, and I am glad that it did. I first hated racing movies, but now that I saw this, it really changed my view of the genre and I feel that I may be able to enjoy other racing movies that come out in the future because they are capable of this. My overall grade for this movie is going to be a 9.1 out of 10. If you did not see this movie, I recommend that you do, and if you don’t like racing movies like I did, I still recommend that you watch it.
