Hi all,

It is I BlueBlur93, and today I'm going to re-review the game, Sonic Erazor which is created by Selbi. Yes I said RE-review because I have done a previous review of the game, and I'm not proud of it, so here is the new one.

1 minute play-through 9/10

Well, you know that you can get a first impression of someone within 7 seconds, so I thought that I could get a first impression of a hack within 1 minute, and it works!

So, from playing Sonic Erazor for 1 minute, I can say that the 1st minute was worth while, because of the intense cut-scene, the moves that are available for Sonic from the start, and the Night Hill Zone. So from the 1 minute play-through I 100% say that  I can award a massively super awesome 9/10.

Now for the in depth stuff.

Graphics and Levels 9/10

Night Hill Place (act 1/8) 8/10

Despite the actual level's graphics to be palette changes, the wall below the grass seems to have had a nice makeover with a nice shading
effect to give it a bit of a bevel look. The palette is also quite good which gives sense of darkness within the level, without having saturated
colours. The level layout, despite it being too short for my liking, it's a really good layout to speed through for the first half of the act, then for the second half of it, there's very precise platforming that needs to be dealt with to progress. I particularly like the intro custscene to the act, like the run up to the starting point, where it's your turn to get brutally punished. I also like the boss for this act with the super killer Crabmeat. So for this act I'd lie to give it a nice 8/10.

Green Hill Place (act 2/8) 7/10

I can't give this zone high marks for the level layout and palette, in fact non at all, however, it's the boss that won the points for this act. It takes on the original style of the Egg Pendulum, but with a couple of extras such as a third platform which is located at the top of Dr Eggman, and not 1, not 2, but 3 swinging SPIKED pendulums that still hurt you as normal, which swing faster after you have dealt a certain amount of hits to Eggman, plus after so many hits, a pendulum breaks off the chain, resulting it to be an obstacle on the ground. That's practically an extra hazard tying with the boss, but then the worst thing happens... allegro mode kicks in. The other 2 pendulums swings faster and all 3 platforms get destroyed. Oh, by the way it takes 20 hits to defeat this boss. So for this act I can give a decent 7/10 for it's ... um annoyingly fun boss. (Yes I know, the words,
annoyingly and fun, contradict each other, well done for spotting it and give yourself a round of applause, you do NOT need to tell me, for they are the only 2 words I can think of which describes the boss. You have just earned the "No... Really?" achievement.)

Special Place (act 3/8) 10/10

Okay, the graphics seem to have taken upon the Sonic 3 & Knuckles slot machine bonus stage sprites, so there has been a nice graphic
update with this act, which moves me onto the level itself. This is the first out of 2 special stages, which are supposed to get you rather frustrated, maybe stressed, no that's an understatement, these special stages are supposed to make you go completely insane with rage. Tons and tons of rage! All I'm going to say is sometimes speed is NOT the answer. Okay about this particular special stage, the continuous rotation has been completely removed and gravity has kicked in, until you hit the "R" switch which does 180 spin, all you have to do is simply not touch the goal and try to stay on the wheels. Sounds easy huh? "COUGH" "COUGH" "It's not that simple though! " So without revealing too much, this is definitely a "special" place all right. I give this act a -10/10 for it's super annoying layout!
Oh did I accidentally give -10/10, let me just touch the "R" switch.

Ruined Place (act 4/8) 8/10

At first I thought that this act was just another marble zone with some palette changes and art changes... but when you hit that "S" box,
this game gets a whole lot harder, despite that you change to inhuman Sonic (what I'm calling this game's Super Sonic) you still aren't entirely invincible, because if you touch the masses of spikes along your path to the end post, you will have to restart the entire section AGAIN, unless you get a checkpoint along the way, which makes this act weirdly unique and addictive, but the annoying thing is that the only way to get around this section is to bounce of the explosions you actually make, which is weird but fun as well. But if you're too chicken enough... I mean it's too hard for you to not be able to play this level as imagined, then there is a teleport switch, which skip all the good stuff and place you at the end with 0 Rings. I never used that switch before... So overall for this act I give it a 8/10 for its uniqueness.

Labyrinth Place (act 5/8) 7/10

Art wise no difference except for a palette change and the continuous diagonally scrolling background. Now the mechanics of this act involves the screen going up
and down, again it's not as simple as that, the idea takes upon the Sonic The Hedgehog (1991 SEGA Game Gear/ Master System)'s Jungle Zone act 2, where when Sonic climbs up on a higher platform, the camera follows and locks until sonic moves upwards, but if Sonic falls down the bottom of the screen, he dies. So this mechanic takes place until a Check point has been reached which then makes the camera go back to normal and you can go down with ease, well you know what I mean. So for this act I give a not half bad 7/10.

Unreal Place (act 6/8) 10/10

When I entered this special stage and played it for a bit, I was saying to myself "okay, this gonna be like the other one, but probably a
bit harder...". NO, NO IT ISN'T! Sorry though I'm not going to give any more details away though, I feel like this is something that you have to find out yourself. But from my experience I'm going to give this act a -100/10.

Scar Night Place (act 7/8) 10/10

This is the most eye deceiving act in any Sonic game or hack, because well once you get passed the bomb boss, you just expect the end post, but instead you see a blue platform which flashes yellow lights when stood on, a button... a simple big grey button, and the ABC short-cut thing. You then start to jump on the button while everything suddenly goes slow, silent except for a slow, heavy heart beat, pounding every second. Then you land on it, and...

... then you hear this super awesome music play, then you touch a wall, and then you say to yourself while your face fills up with fright "Oh no, not this!!!"

(Now I want you to try and say this as fast as you can because I feel that you may get the same experience as when other players get up to this point...):

Then all hell breaks loose, because you've got to hold the C button to fly while avoiding the flashing red and white barriers of death and weave you're way through this mind boggling maze without touching the barriers, (*Normal calm Voice* but you get checkpoints along the way so that's nice), but still every time you touch the barriers you lose 5 rings, and once you have 4 or less rings you lose a life, and then you have to restart this monstrosity over and over again until the level is engraved into you mind.

But still despite this act being a little annoying, and well thought out, I give this act an awesome 10/10!

FINALOR PLACE (act 8/8) 9/10

Well well, so you've finally made it, you've only got the final boss to go, no intense, sped up battle, nope, just the plain old standard final boss we all know and love.
Oh wait, I need to touch the "R" switch again

Because, well it is the absolute opposite of that! After you enter the final room, Eggman comes crashing down, without giving you a warning, and then the electric balls of doom form very quickly and unlike the original, they don't float down like feathers, no they come crashing down, literally. So yeah if Selbi didn't give you any rings like the original, then this boss would be impossible, unless you're a ghost ninja master. Graphically I can't see much difference, but the boss and the Michael Bay run up, again bumps up this acts attraction. So for this act I'm going to give this act an amazing 9/10.

Sound 10/10

Well, even though the levels are addictive and ridiculously hard, the music makes it so worth while playing, because the ported music AND custom made music are so awesomely epic, especially my ultimate favourite Scar Night Place part 2 music which is a partial remix of the Orn Base Theme from Thunder Force III, which is so epic and tense. All the music fits perfectly with the levels, again it makes this game so much more addictive. There is not one piece of music that seems out of place or that I dislike, which allows me to proudly give the Sound for this game the ultimate score of 10/10! Good Job Selbi!

Addictiveness 10/10

Oh boy, is this game addictive, but it's weird though, because this hack is one of those few where you don't actually want to play it, not because it's a bad hack, it's because you don't want to face the never-ending frustration, but when you actually do start playing, you can't stop playing, even if you desperately need the toilet, you just don't WANT to go, (I know I could've made a better example, like getting a drink, but it just shows that not matter what, you simply just can't tear yourself apart from the game), because you're in such an intense moment in the hack, which is almost the entire hack. So for this hack I give it a 10/10 for its high level of addictiveness when you actually start play it.

Story 9/10

This hack provides many awesome cut-scenes and text screens which show as you slowly progress through the game. I can't say much because this is one of the things where you've got to find out yourself, but I can the story a rating of 9/10.

There is also a rather raunchy and a not-so raunchy Easter Egg somewhere within the hack, I'm not saying where they are and how to get them, but I've only said that because do like it when Easter Eggs are placed within games.

Depth 9/10

This hack can take a long time to complete, so I surely hope that you have a lot of time to spare. Also this game definitely stands from all the other games because of its masses of explosions, frustrating and intense acts, unique bosses/improved bosses, as this game has been created by Selbi, aka the Michael Bay of Sonic hacks. I also like the fact that there is a Tutorial Place, so you can practice and find out what to expect later in the game, but let me just say that anything you see and do in the Tutorial Place stays in the Tutorial Place, it is only a very minor taste of what the game offers as you progress, so please expect the game to be 1000 times harder and more intense than what is shown in the Tutorial Place. So I can definitely give the depth of the hack a very high rating of 9/10.

Difficulty 10/10

Okay, let's just make this as simple as possible so I don't have to think about it, this is by far the most difficult hack I've ever played, BUT to balance the difficulty a bit, Selbi has added a an auto save feature so you don't have to re-do the whole nightmare all over again if you get a Game Over. So yeah without a doubt, the difficulty is rated at 10/10, but in a good way.

Overall 9.5/10

Overall, this is by far my most favourite hack out there, for it's complete overhaul, uniqueness and challenging levels. I highly recommend you play it, not try it, actually play the game and complete it, because this is one of the few hacks which makes you feel so godlike when you complete the entire hack, until... well... That's all I'm saying about that, you've got to find out yourself. What also makes the hack my favourite, is the soundtrack, for its so epic and awesome tracks played within all areas in the game. Another reason why, is because of the Scar Night Place part 2. Despite it being completely annoying and difficult, it is also possibly the greatest idea I have ever played, and this is also why it makes the hack stand out from all the others. So yeah my last words are, try it, play it, complete it.

Great review, BlueBlur93! There's lots of detail and information on each act (which is pretty cool). It's easy to read and very clear. Again, nice review! 8.2/10

kirbmanboggle : You can never,
never have too much information in a review. I've made 3,000 word reviews before, and I think I saw a 5000 word review once.

TheFadedWarrior : Thank you! I do try to go in depth about my reviews, because well, if people write about a game lightly then I just see it as a mere opinion rather a review. So yeah I do agree with you about you can never write too much! Anyway thanks again for good feedback!

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
