I believe rivalry in American professional sports is dead.  Teams are no longer hated by each other and players generally don't have the animosity between other teams nowadays.  All the players make millions and it is them vs. the owners, not them vs each other.  Leagues are saturated with so many teams, no one plays anyone else that often.  And free agency means rosters change all the time.  No team stays the same after a year or two and can't build up hatred for other rosters.

It used to Red Wings vs. Avalanche was going to be a blood bath.  Steelers and Raiders was a good one even further back.  I'll allow Red Sox and Yankees but those teams were forced on us by ESPN.

College sports and other countries have rivalries still around.  Can anyone name me a true rivalry in U.S. pro sports?

warmaker : There are still a bunch of small rivalries out, but there are no more of those "bloodbath" rivalries. Pretty much all of them are from city teams, Mets Yankees, Dodgers Angels and Giants, to name a few

Everything that used to be one of those huge rivalries, are all broken up. One team has gotten a lot better then the other. Nothing as huge anymore.

There's surely still a friendly rivalry?
Rivalry in Europe is ridiculous. A simple search of football hooligans is all that's required to verify that.
In the last week 3 football broadcasts have been taken off tv because you can hear the fans singing colourful songs or just swearing at their opponents.
