Does anyone know any (free) program for making music? I want guitar, bass, and drums (not beeps and boops). I have been writing songs for a very long time and I wanted to lay down some demo tracks and see what I can do with them. I can (sort of) play bass but I have nothing to record it.

Hey man. Glad to hear you have interest in recording music. I think its important for all musicians to express themselves and record songs they write. Its something you are going to have forever.. 

Anyway... if your looking for free it will be hard.. There are a lot of good programs out  for intro level recording though. I was always fond of Garage band, but that is for Mac only.  I recorded a lot of my first songs on it.  

Also there is a mobile alternative that is surprisingly good.  It will be a small investment, but basically you can buy a USB converter that will let you hook up your instruments to your ipad or iphone. You can actually record songs and use a lot of different built in amps and things.  Its pretty amazing what you can do now and days.. Ill find a video and shoot it to you later. 

As for the drums.. you can write your own drum loops in garage band and just lay them down where you want.. it is very expensive to record drums and that is what my band had to do our first couple of singles...

You can use Garage Band, you can use Synthesia if you want to make piano stuff, and Mario Paint to do some cool original songs or covers
