I've always used a star, but a lot of my friends put angels on the top of their trees. I never really viewed the angel as being solely for Christians, but hey, I could be wrong.

And apparently google says they're both religious? The star is apparently symbolic of the East star that was over Jesus when he was born...or something. Learn something new every day I guess.

Depends on who I'm with on Christmas. When I lived with my grandparents, they put an angel on their tree. My dad puts stars I believe, and this year, my mom just put an old hand made toilet paper roll star at the top.

Well we usually put an angel on top of ours because we do not have a star in the box where we keep all of our christmas tree decorations.

My family puts a star on top and the angels like surrounding the tree I likeit that way more symbolic in some ways meaning that there's is more than one angel gives me a more realistic vibe of a christmas tree.

Each year is different for me one year might have a star next we might have an angel up there it is always different. My family usually put an angel on their main public seeing one and a star in the backroom that is sorta like a guest/hangout spot so sorta mixed on the two.

I believe it's because it's more fitting for the festive feeling we strive for every Christmas, what with the bright lights and such. We do have angels on our tree, though. We just never put them on the top.

Pretty much when I'm celebrating with my family we always use a star. Don't know if there's a particular reason for it nor do I know if putting an angel is something only christians do or not but I do think a star fits it better then an angel that's only me though.

When decorating the Christmas tree I usually put an elaborate sparkly, bright and colorful star on top. I think it appears prettier and nicer that way. However, I have many angel and angelic (along with other kinds) of ornaments I place around the tree as opposed to on top.

I don't put a star or an angel on top of the Christmas tree. My tree topper is 3 candles surrounded by a wreath with lights on it. It's all plastic, not actually three candles. We used to alternate topping the tree with an angel one year, then a star the next, but we decided it was time for a new ornament.

I've never viewed and angle or a star as being a "Christian" choice, but I understand how both could be construed as such.  As an adult, my husband and I choose not to keep a Christmas tree (for religious reasons, actually).  However, my parents always put one up and as kids, I did enjoy it.  We kept the same angel on our tree every year as a tradition until it broke. We were crazy sad, but my parents got a new one and we kept the tradition.  It was sad to see our old one go though, because it was very special to us.
