So I'm sure many of you have heard about Malaysia Airline Flight 370 by now, because I've seen it literally all over the news.

For those who haven't heard, basically this airplane leaving a Malaysian International Airport disappeared. Yep. It just vanished. It was flying to Beijing and never got there. All 227 passengers and 12 crew members are missing.

I've also been reading on CNN that 2 passengers apparently had stolen passports, and part of me thinks that the plane was taken over by those two passengers in some terrorist act. I know it's a long shot, but Interpol has confessed to concerns of terrorism and so it's a feasible idea.

Thoughts?

I haven't heard about this until now. They have no idea where the plane is? It just vanished? I don't think it is an act of terrorism, or the plane would have crashed into something. I thought they tracked all airplanes nowadays, so shouldn't they know where they are? This story would have made a lot more sense if they were near Bermuda.

tgags123 : Well, they can't just 'track' planes and know exactly where they are at any given moment. Here is what is known. After investigation, there are 4 people with very questionable credentials. Possibly fake identification. As of now, I haven't heard or read anything that stated that anything more than that has been released to the public. According to their radar records, the plane had actually changed direction from it's course not long before its disappearance. Nobody knows why it changed direction. Last, there was no communication from the pilots. That is the part that is particularly odd. There was no alert. Even during engine failure, the pilot typically has time to send something stating that their plane is going down. So though it is unknown as to what happened right now, it is narrowed down to only 2 possibilities. Something completely catastrophic that destroyed or crashed the plane down so quickly that the pilots could not send out a signal, or something very sudden and violent happened on that plane. It very well could have been the former, but the problem is that it doesn't explain why the plane changed direction and traveled the wrong way before it disappeared. Given the time at which the plane changed direction and the time the plane disappeared, there shouldn't be a reason for the pilots to not have radioed in unless something very bad was keeping them from doing so. So it is an alarming situation.

rcarter2 : Huh. Weird. I am not sure where my dad heard this, but he said that he read that oil was found in the ocean in the general area where the plane supposedly disappeared. There could have been some kind of problem, but like you said, that doesn't explain why the pilot didn't let anyone know about it.

tgags123 : Actually there was an oil slick that was found and was originally thought to be part of the plane's wreckage, but it turns out the oil was actually just from cargo ships that frequented the area.

So as of now we've basically still got nothing. But apparently investigators/officers/whoever solves these things are fairly confident that they'll be able to locate the plane's black box and track it's location.

I have been looking into this disappearace lately. What i know is that those guys who were investigated for fake credidentials were two iranians who entered Malaysia with valid passports, so the investigators are now less inclined to think it was terrorism. The investigators say it was very likely that the plane changed course and headed for the Andaman sea or the south china sea, which would explain why nothing of the plane was found in the Gulf of thailand, where the last contact was made. As for the lack of communication, my theory is that the pilot or co-pilot wished to defect or commit suicide, eliminated all other presence in the cockpit, and then changed course, but lost control of the plane.

Most likely it just crashed. I cant really be bothered to speculate though, air crashes arent that unusual, they will probably find some wreckage or a body within a month and It'll be case closed

If there was some malfunction that made the pressure too low the whole plane could have just come apart in the air and could have just spread out in a real wide area.
