So, DH just told me about how the newer build of Final Fantasy XIII(13) not looking as good. So I did a little digging up to see if he was telling the truth. He was. There is a HUGE difference in graphics! The graphics still look great, but before it was going to be multi-platform, FFXIII looked godly.

What do you guys think about this? Personally, I think that they should just make the game to run at it's best on both platforms. The 360 isn't as powerful, so they should just make it look worse for the 360(because it can't handle PS3 graphics) and leave the PS3 graphics alone. Their defense is "we want both versions to look identical". I think that is taking some of the appeal away for those who have a PS3 and wanted the godly graphics too.

I agree with Rasen about about making the graphics worse for the 360, but that could spawn PS3 fanboys mocking the 360.
Though the same thing happened with RAGE in which iD did a smart decision, they had the 360 version two-disked instead of removing the s*** from the PS3 version to make it equal to the 360 version.

Technically it would be about time what with all the s*** PS3 fans have had to put up with from 360 fans for all this time (NO GAEMS anyone?).
Although I also dont think there would be that much mocking from the PS3 camp as PS fans are often more mature anyways (probally because they arnt 12 or jocks).

But yeah, just cause the 360 is has crappy components doesnt mean the game shouldnt be made to be the best it can be.
With PC games there are multiple settings, from low end to high, so why not make it that if you have the better hardware you can reap the benefits of it.

I think PS3 fanboys have gotten some balls at Microsoft when Halo 3 came out. Personally I like the PS3 better since it's more of a relief than just "Generic FPS with loud soldiers yelling"

Though, PC has always been the best consoles for shooters.

Let the better console have better graphics.... maybe it'd draw people to the PS3 if they saw they would be getting better graphics on the same game...

That does seem a little unfair because many Xbox 360 (multi-platform) games have had better graphics than Playstation 3 games and they never downgraded the graphics on those Xbox 360 games (my thread discussing this can be found here).

The graphics don't look bad if you look at it they fixed the pixelated backgrounds. The new versions seems more "smooth" like with a blur applied. Yeah it looks like crap on the objects that are closer but I think it does a better job for the background settings.

Anyway, why is this such a big deal? FF is known for having like the best graphics ever but people shouldn't be crying about how bad it is.

Graphics shouldn't matter in games, gameplay should that's why lots of games these days just blow too much focus on what looks best.

Plus if you don't have a plasma HD TV won't make much difference anyway.

Its not just about FF, its about them downgrading the graphics on a popular game.
Just because the 360 cant handle it doesnt mean they should downgrade the game for both systems.
The PS3 is making a big move to reclaim the market and Microsoft is worrying.
No doubt Square-Enix would have made the game to look the best it could per console (as the Japanese love their PS3) if MS hadnt had a big cry (my hypothosis anyway, dont doubt its far from truth).

And I'm going to disagree on Davids thread as the PS3 does have both superior graphics and a better chipset then the 360.
Gamespot are biased and say whatever the money tells them to.
The multi platform games on 360 that look better then the PS3 version just means they did downgrade the graphics for the PS3.

DarkHyren: That article wasn't biased, they gave proof by displaying screenshots from multi-platform games of both systems. Screenshots don't lie.

The GS Screenshots themselves might have been acurate, but screenshots can lie (be altered), so they cant prove the console has better graphics or specs.

Plus I can find (have found) plenty of screenshots of multi platform games that look better the other way around.

Its just further proof that game companies should and can make the games to be the best the console can handle.
S-E just need to make the 360 FF game multi disk and fill the PS3 BluRay and let the consoles do what they do.

EDIT: Anyways, the PS3 has an Nvidia GPU chipset, while the 360 has an ATI GPU chipset.
And everyone knows Nvidia's chips are vastly superior to ATI's

The new graphics are horrible compared to the old ones. Just another example of a game series selling out. Final Fantasy has been one of the greatest RPG series of all time, and I think FFXIII will still be a great game, but it still doesn't have as good of graphics as when FFXIII was a PS3 exclusive.

Honestly I don't really care if the graphics are good or not. I stand by my opinion that graphics DO NOT make the game. I mean come on, just look at the lego people in FF7, heralded as possibly the greatest game of all time.

On top of that I honestly think Squenix has been going a little crazy with the art design. Everything you see is so overly detailed, which I admit some people may like, but it's really not for me. I like well thought out simpler designs rather than poorly thought complex ones. I really couldn't care less if an airship in the back round has 400 finely detailed plates that make up the hull.

Give me the good old days when Final Fantasy was about good storytelling, not how pretty it looks.

Sure they do not make the game. But they make it better.

And they're obviously making the graphics worse because of the xbox which will take more time to downgrade everything, time that could be spent on other stuff.

Overall, the game will get worse.

I agree but I think the cast of characters are all horribly fail. And really that's what makes the game : I dunt want no pink haired girl-Cloud

Blue Ray fail its all blurry and thats completely bass akwards.

Blu-Ray fails? I'm sorry, but that's hilarious! Blu-Ray can hold 25gb per layer. DVD? 4.5. Blu-Ray can hold a lot more data, meaning less compression, so audio is better and so are visuals. Blu-Ray is the best disk yet, they're even working on a 1TB Blu-Ray, which can hold 1000gb. DVD? It can only hold 9gb, end of story.

Because of the DVD 9gb limit, it means audio will have to be compressed more, and textures will have to be compressed more. Audio compressed = Lesser audio quality. Textures compressed = Worse visuals.

The graphics don't matter to me that much. It's the story that gets me into a game. As long as that doesn't stink, I think it'll be alright.

well the story off final fantasy is allways unexpected and deep; the mother gets two sons of two different fathers, one of them evil and the other one good then it turns out that the evil son isn't really the son but the father of the good son, then there is a girl who is actually the sister of the mother of the friend from the baseballcoach, who on himself is spawning an evil plan with the bad father of the good son.

this is no bad criticism on final fantasy, the games have allways kicked ass from day one but the story of the last game was so freakin deep that i had the feeling that i was watching a soap opera in stead of playing an rpg.

but about the topic, i think they should make two different versions, one with better graphics for the ps3(ps3 owner ) and one with lesser graphics so the 360 gamers can enjoy the game too

I can agree with the graphics downgrade being sort of unfair.

I understand that they want to branch this game out for users who don't have a playstation but they could have used the full potential of the console. I care more for the gameplay and story than graphics, (if I had pong I would play it now)but with the technology of today, the visuals could also play a very important role in the story or gameplay.

Maybe in time both companies will actually be even and we won't have to worry about this. Also, as a 360 owner, I hate to bash 360's but I don't think Final Fantasy even should have been released on it, it should be playstation exclusive, but that's just an opinion.

That was a bump. It turns out that those must've been 360 beta screenshots, because the PS3 and 360 versions look better. 360 looks like the PS3, but the textures are lower res, CG is very compressed, and there aren't as many details in things such as clothes, or the environment.
