Ok, today I remembered the name of a band I use to like (Flipper) and I went to listen to one of their songs. I started listening then I thought "why did I like this?", I mean it wasn't that bad but I can't see why I liked it so much.

Have you ever done that? Not listen to a band or song for a long time then go back a listen to it and have a total different opinion of it? If so what band or song?

Often. My music preferences are nothing like what they were a few years ago. Even looking at the past few months, I've switched artists and favorite songs on a regular basis.

At one point, my favorite songs comprised country music and light rock. Now I can't bear listening to those for more than a few minutes. I've switched to pop and classic rock.

EideticMemory : My taste in music has been all but untouched for years, I have had the same favorite artist (GG Allin) for years, like all or most of the bands I have liked for years (finding new ones as well though). It is very hard for me to see how people can drastically hop from one genre to another and change what they like so easy. For me I like what I like and that is what I like.

GenesisJunkie :

Oh man! I still love Flipper. Especially the Genric Flipper album.

But to answer the question. Not so much. Lot of bands I liked in the nineties though I listened to death and dont want to listen to anymore since I still know every song by heart and prefer something else.

My taste in music has changed several times over the years, and recently as well. I actually went through a phase where I liked Southern music, but the very sound of Southern just gets on my nerves to no end now. As a child I listened to country because my family did, but now the stuff nearly turns my stomach, I mean I seriously get borderline queasy when I hear it. I don't know why though.

Now for my recent changes...

I was big on Pop music from ages thirteen to twenty-one, then I changed over to Rock, but I hated screaming in music. No exceptions. Now I listen mostly to RED (much screaming there ) and Metal groups. I don't care too much for the rock that I listened to a few years ago, and the strange thing is, that change happened over the course of one year. Amazing what getting a CD of a metal band for Christmas that year did. lol

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention the names of artists/groups, other than RED. I now listen to some Disciple, and a little Thousand Foot Krutch. Mostly RED though. Oh, and I love GOOD Punk as well.

What is good punk and what is not seems to be an eternal debate but this reminds me. In my teens I used to really hate Rancid but later in life I got moore into it and ... Out comes the wolves album especially is what I think is one of the best pop punk albums ever.

Brigand : That is very true. You go onto Youtube and go to listen to a Punk band (any of them) and in the comments all you see is "this ain't punk, bla bla bla!" "Oh yes it is, I was there!" Its non since. It seems the old school punks and the new guys (like myself) seem to not get along well. There is no real definition to punk, it is what it is and its not was its not. That being said I am guilty of listening to something and saying that it isn't punk. It seems the music has become a cliche and the culture is becoming a parity of its self.

Ok sorry for getting off topic there

GenesisJunkie :

It was always like that. Even before you tube. Or social media. What was diy and anarcho enough versus the major label/sell out/apolitical- stuff. It will never change. But nuff said on the off topic.

I used to perfer instrumental more than songs, but now I really value songs, both singing and the lyrics.
It's the most comforting, emotional and meaningful music to me.
