I was in scouts from 8-18. I can't remember what each level is called (or if it's exactly the same between the US and Canada).

I liked it for the most part. We would go camping and boating and stuff. It was tough but I think boy scouts teaches you skills and toughens you up in ways that you don't get anywhere else. Survival skills may not be important most of the time but it never hurts to have a basic understanding of what to do when you're stranded.

they probably don't now but when I was in scouts we did. I remember spending 4 days in the snow on winter camps. We would built snow shelters (quinzies... not sure if I spelled that right) and sleep in them. It was tough to do but I think it builds character that not a lot of kids have anymore.
