Hello. I just wanted to take the time to ask people what their favorite rock, hard rock, or metal band is. As for me, Metallica has and probably always will be my favorite. I think throughout their career, they have been designated as a mix between rock and metal. Some of their songs are soft enough to appeal to rock listeners, and some are definitely heavy enough for a metal audience. But enough about that, tell me what your favorite is! Please respond.

I have several different bands that I really like, but if I had to pick one overall, it would have to be Amon Amarth. Norse Mythology is something that I've been fascinated with and that's what they're lyrics are mostly about.

Other bands that I like include: Metallica, Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Lamb of God, etc. The list goes on.

You guys have listed some very good and interesting bands, some of which I have never heard of before. Thank you for responding. I am in the process of trying to expand my own music collection, with rock and metal at its core, so any further recommendations of music would be greatly appreciated. Try to get as many people as you can to post their favorite bands. Of course, if you cant or don't want to, that's fine also.

Kilo1811 :

I could try atleast to recomend you something if you can be more specific. I am not sure what kind of bands you might already be familiar with besides Metallica.

Sorry, your right. I could have been a little more specific. I'm familiar with most of the big timers, such as Megadeth, Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rush, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, just to name a few. Also, some of the relatively new  and well established bands, such as Five Finger Death Punch, Rise Against, Disturbed, A Day To Remember, Three Days Grace, Imagine Dragons, Arctic Monkeys. Also just to name a few that I know. Mostly, I'm interested in rock and certain types of metal, with the occasional alternative thrown in. Ill check out anything you post here when I get the time, and let you know what I think of it. Thanks for replying.

Yeah thanks. This was very helpful. I especially liked Entombed, Sinergy, and Stone. Just the type of music I am looking for. I had never heard of any of these bands prior to this. I will definitely find a way to add these to my collection eventually, when I get some extra money. Again, thanks for taking the time to help me out.

AC/DC cranks out some really awesome songs. They're probably the best rock band in my opinion. I love them!

Rock: RED. They're borderline metal, but they in no way cross over that line. They're easily my favorite band.

Metal: Disciple. They're full blown metal, and their album Horseshoes and Hangrenades was nothing short of epic (and I'm not using that word lightly). Sadly, most of their stuff pales in comparison to every single song on that album.

I also like Hawk Nelson for Punk Rock (especially their first few albums). And what I know by FM Static is pretty good in that genre as well.

What is punk rock about Hawk Nelson? Maybe I have only heard these rockish ballad songs and never knew they did anything else? Care to link me some punk rock song they made?

Brigand : To avoid posting several links, I'll just say, check out any of the songs on their "Letters To The President" album. They aren't all Punk, but most of their stuff is one form of Punk or another, so I classify them as Punk (as do they).

But since you asked for links...

Like A Racecar is an example of a harder form of their approach to Punk, but a rare sound for them honestly.

Late Show is probably the best example of Punk in a single track that I can list by them.

Thank you for the links! I had not heard either of the songs before. Like a race car was interesting metalish punkish indy rock and the Late show, well it was okay punk pop. I admit it made me tap my toe.

I doubt it will never really be my cup of tea but I think I shall at some point listen the whole album.

Sorry not really a metal guy but i do like
Punk and Pop-Punk. And if Punk is accounted for
then I will say Punk Rock: Ramones, The Clash,
The Misfits and Sex Pistols. And for Pop Punk:
All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, Blink 182, MxPx, Paramore
Yellowcard, Pierce The Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, New
Found Glory, We The Kings. I got alot more for Pop Punk
but I'm not sure you guys will care so i will only give a
few.

Well my username gives it away but Slayer still is my top favorite metal band. Even though their new stuff is not my favorite and things have changed with the band, their old stuff still has a special place in my heart. They also started it all for me by getting into other metal genres and finding out about other bands. As someone mentioned, Amon Amarth is also a top favorite, as well as Kreator. When it comes to rock it's hard for me to choose, but I would say my top ones are Tool, AC/DC, Queen and Electric Light Orchestra.
