When I started with Pokémon, I didn't name my Pokémon, because I like to keep game characters original; you know, like not wanting to change Link's name in The Legend of Zelda. But later, I used to name my starters as well as some other random Pokémon from time to time - Usually if I could think of a bad pun for its name, but sometimes if I can think for a normal name that just seems fitting.

I never named the legendaries though. I wanted to a few times, but never could do it. It just doesn't feel that "legendary" if a legendary Pokémon has a name like this.

Ryroe : My nicknames are ONLY bad puns, I even once had a save file where I named every Pokémon I caught with a bad pun of their names. Didn't even last to the first gym though, way too annoying.

I never name my Pokemon.  I always keep how they are just because I can never think of any good nicknames for them.  If I do find a nickname I usually get bored of it and just want it changed eventually.

I don't like to put a nickname to my pokemon. I like their normal name and the way it pronounce, but sometimes I do change the name of my pokemon to make it sounds perfect and good to me.

I used to when I was younger, but I stopped recently. I actually used to name all my Pokémon characters from KH or Final Fantasy games, but uh, I kind of ran out of characters.

Long story short. Salamance stopped being 'Xehanort' and just went back to plain old Salamance.

If they're male, I name them random male names like "William" or "Johnny" or maybe "Pierre", "Guillermo", "Jacques" or "Xavier". If they're female, I incorporate my real name into their pokemon names. For example, somebody whose name is Katherine would name their Surskit "Surskath" or "Surskathy"  or they would name their Kadabra "Kathabra". I'm just a bit strange like that. I started doing that maybe a year ago, and it's just kind of stuck with me ever since. Also, when I trade pokemon and get a pokemon with a name that's all caps or all lowercase, it kind of annoys me a bit.
