Badbidea, big government isnt good. Small local ones are better because they are more accountable and have a better understanding of what people want. Places like africa would be neglected and richer more populous parts pandered to.

I would like to see compulsory state or federal service for all kids when they hit 18 years of age.  it shows them that there is a bigger world with larger involvement then just them.  Kids, it seems, just think they're the best and nothing is more important then their twitter feed and youtube.  Teach them to serve others, teach them they're a piece of a much larger pie, and teach them to take pride in contributing to society as a whole, not just sitting back, watching cartoons and hanging out.

There's a big world out there, kids.  Until you add something to it, you're not important.  I don't care what your 7th place Spelling bee trophy says.

I have another idea.  We should stop giving food donations to poor and starving countries as a method of continuing their survival.  It should be done as a relief effort and we should invest in education and techniques and tools for self-sustaining agriculture and animal husbandry around the world.

Teach everyone to make their own food, in other words.  And use our technology when they live in challenging environments.

That will get rid of the problem eventually. Or does it? Not like there aint enough refugees already.

But sure, otherwise I am all for the "don't give a fish but teach how to fish"- approach, except it is not always as simple as that.

True that but there have been long range goals. Some have worked, some have failed, some have failed miserably but if there is a total disaster then you cant help but to send food, funds and medicene. As in case of an earthquake, tsunami or some such.

But surely we can all agree on that the system should be more efficient.
