Which type of capture do you think is better in a Let's Play? Personally, I'm split between the two, because a camera is the only device that I have that can record gameplay and it seems to work perfectly fine, but direct capture always gets perfect quality, though other problems can happen(audio desync, horrible video quality, etc.) and you usually have to do your commentary in post. I just don't like post commentary.

I have seen both be done on youtube in good quality. I might lean slightly toward direct capture simply because the quality seems to be better. I like commentary in a post because for me I can pause the video to see what the person is offering say a hint. I also like post commentary because I get to still hear the awesome music especially if it is a Mega Man game.

I tried using a direct capture card, (Dazzle DVC 100), which worked, but the quality seemed to deteriorate over time and the audio sync became more and more a problem. So I decided to use emulators that use a stretching filter to full screen, and I have found little to no  problem using that as a method. I generally find using a camera to record a screen troublesome though, just too much flashing and you can see the lines from the TV.

Darkpower508 : Those issues you're talking about only happen on CRT screens. If you're using an LCD screen, it'll work just fine, with no flickering or scanlines. Although you DO have to put a bit of work into setting it up.

NovemberJoy : Would be nice if you asked me what monitor type I was using. I actually have an LCD monitor, haven't had CTR for 8 years now.

I built a new pc recently, with a nvidia graphics card.
The good ones come with shadow play built in.
It's far better than any recording software iv tried.
You can run it anytime using defined hotkeys, record to pc or stream straight to twitch, even low quality is decent, and it can record camera input as well, including audio.
I like it a lot.

Darkpower508 : Sorry about that, I just assumed that it was a CRT screen. I've never seen any issues with flickering and scanlines on a non-CRT monitor. Your camera setup probably wasn't right. If the camera is too close, it'll focus on the individual pixels, which causes the line problem, and if it's actually flickering, then either you have it synced incorrectly and your monitor has an unusual refresh rate, or your camera isn't too good. But I guess this doesn't really matter...
