I just got through Light Platinum with only a Blastoise and some HM Pokemon.
It's moves were Surf, Earthquake, Bite, and Ice Beam.
It was tough in the beginning before I had Earthquake and Ice Beam, but then it got pretty easy once I had them.
The Blastoise was level 100 by the time I got to the World Cup and beat Ash.

My HM Pokemon were Pidgey for Fly, Riolu for Strength, Rock Climb, and Rock Smash, Snorlax for Ice Punch, and Macargo (or Slugma; cannot remember right now) for Lava Surf.

And now I'm playing Liquid Crystal with a Feraligator and expect the same.

And planning on trying this out with the Fire and Grass starters in the future because it MAY be a little harder.

Your experiences?

I haven't done this in hacked Pokemon games, but I have in normal games.
What I think, it's way too easy. Only one Pokemon getting the experience means your Pokemon will be way to over-leveled, making the game extremely easy.

What I like to do, is get a weak Pokemon, and only do fights that are required (Gym Leaders, Boss Fights, Trainers that you HAVE to fight to advance through an area)

Besides that, I can't find anything else wrong with it. It is a very fun experience. Bit too easy.

HM slaves are a must.

I find when I play any Pokémon game I always favor one Pokémon. But I have to admit I've never even thought about playing with only one through the entire game, let alone done it. Some of the game is hard enough with the max. That would be a lot of grinding to get through. Good job guys. It does make the game more challenging and adds a whole new strategic value to it.

Its also hard in the Elite Four and the World Cup (in Light Platinum) for PP reasons.
I've had to use Struggle a bunch of times and it kinda hurt

I did this in Pokémon Yellow. I relied solely on my Pikachu. The hardest part was defeating the electric type gym (it was harder than Pewter's gym). It's definitely an experience, but I regretted it in the end, since I didn't get to use any of my captured Pokémon.

I didn;t really try this, but I think you should try fire type Pokemon after you complete your water type. That should be a challenge to you because you beat Light Platinum with only one Pokemon, that's amazing! D:

I have did this for only 2 gyms so that doesn't really mean I tried that hard.

Haha I will thanks!

& yea Light Platinum was HARD with only one
Mainly because of PP usage

PP was a PAIN during the Zhery Elite Four because I didn't save ANY PP saving items
Lauren was easier with that because my Blastoise was already 100 by then and I learned to just use X Attacks and Dire Hits
to kill Pokemon almost instantly so that it'll amount to less PP usage

And the World Championship/World Cup was a PAIN in this respect too....
I used Struggle throughout almost my whole battle with Ash....
