Anyone know any good Dog Training websites? I have been learning to train dogs but the show I learned from It's Me Or The Dog ended in 2011. I have looked on Animal Planet but that does not help much because I want to learn to train dogs before I learn the lifestyle and health of dogs. The way I would like to learn is through Positive Reinforcement. Positive Reinforcement is where you give them dog treats or a toy for every time they recognize and execute a command that you give them. I have trained my dog Casper he is three years old now. He is a Pitbull and I love him to death. He knows all the basic commands like Sit, Lie Down, Roll Over, Shake, Jump, Beg, Speak, and to Give me Five but the problem that is at the same time not a problem is that I have taught him to speak or whine when he wants something. The problem with that is that I don't always give him what he wants and so he goes to my grandmother because she will always and I do mean ALWAYS give him what he wants because he will whine anywhere between 10 seconds to 10 minutes. Does anyone else have a dog like this? If you do are they not awesome?

jerry.ferguson : Websites are okay but live training with clubs are better.  They teach you how to teach your dog.  Websites give information and clubs are interactive and the folks there answer questions and correct your mistakes.

The problem is your dog goes to grandma?  That's easy.  Grandma no longer has treats.  End that now.  If she hands them out she undermines what you're doing with your puppy.  My dog used to whine but I would tell her "No Whine" and hold her muzzle shut.  It didn't hurt her but it was inconvenient and she knew she wasn't supposed to do it.  Whining only happens now on rare occasion and she quiets down when we tell her to.

Positive reinforce is good except you should go between treats and emotional/physical reinforcement.  Pet your dog, be super excited for them, play with them, and encourage them when they do well.  Don't always go to treats because you could either (a) make him fat or (b) make him whine every time he doesn't get something.

If your dog whines, don't look at him.  Leave the room.  Don't make eye contact because he knows whining will get your attention.  It works so he does it.  Don't let anyone else do it either when he whines.  Ignore him, go somewhere else, teach him whining makes it less likely for him to get what he wants.  He'll figure that out pretty quick.

Good luck.

I already know all of that and I do it but the problem is that my grandmother does not do it.  I have been use to him doing it since he was a year old a and he is now three.  He is a pure pitbull with white coat and yellow eyes.  I have also taught him impulse control.  It works when I am around him but when I leave the room he likes to have some fun.  He is not aggressive by no means but he is sometimes hyperactive and really bored.

Obviously he hasn't learned impulse control if he takes treats from your grandmother.
