Shinies: Breed or Catch Them? Pokemon X/Y

To get a Shiny, would you breed for them or catch them in the grass? Oh and by the way, there is a rumor that if you tip people, you get a higher chance of encountering a shiny in the grass.

Breeding shinies is the best strategy for me because it is not too time consuming for me. Also, I've have had a shiny magikarp (derp), a shiny froakie, and a shiny fennekin! Also, your Pokemon can level up while you are doing this so it's even better. Now, what is YOUR opinion?

Breading is the best way for me to.. Catching them is fun but breeding gives a lot more feeling and achievement for me at least! I guess I enjoy both though!

Well, I have to agree, looking in the grass is funner although it can get somewhat frustrating, yet it is so much easier to hatch a shiny while breeding . Since I have the chance, I am going to relay to you every encounter I've had with a shiny Pokemon, all of which were not caught or encountered on purpose. My first encounter with a shiny Pokemon was in Pokemon heart Gold Version, but I'm not if it would count; it was the shiny Gyarados you encounter in the story line, and I caught it, named it Gary, and made it part of my main team. An important member he is ! I can not see why not consider it a shiny. I understand the means of getting ti were easy, but... it's still a shiny ! So, I will count it. So, the second shiny encounter I had was also in my Pokemon Heart Gold Version for the Nintendo DS. I played it a lot at the time; I thought it was an excellent remake. Anyway, I was training my Pidgeot in the route under Blackthorn city (I can't seem to remember what it was called, but oh, well), and all of a sudden - Boom! A shiny Geodude ! I got surprised and shut my DSi for a little while and took a deep breath. It was my first shiny, after all . So, I opened it gain, did not attack it as the rest of my Pokemon were way to strong and could have knocked it out, crossed my fingers and threw a Poeball. Then ... ... *drumroll starts* ... ... it popped open ". After a few more attempts at paralyzing it, putting it to sleep, burning it, freezing it (you know what I mean), a threw another Pokeball and finally caught it ! I named it Goldie, and I trained it until it evolved into a fantastic golden Graveler! I love the color of it. Then, after some while, I traded it to my cousin (and got it back, of course XD) and now it's a fully-evolved Golem ! It's sitting now, at level twenty-nine or something close to that in the PC, still in my Heart Gold file. I really should get it out again soon, I guess... Okay, okay, back to the matter at hand. The third shiny I found with my sister in our Pokemon White Version game file, and this time, we were just walking through some random grass to get to a nearby city (I think it was either Accumula town or Striaton City. Either way, it was route close to Nuvema Town, I think). And out came a shiny Wathcog! That was pretty easy to catch, I mean you wouldn't expect much from a low-leveled Watchog , but it did take some time. I'm always very, very careful when it comes to encounters with wild shinies. Better safe than sorry! Anyway, we did catch it, of course, and now it's in the PC (still in White) sitting there. The main difference from a regularly-colored Watchog would be the stripes on its stomach and the color surrounding its pupils in its eyes (it has pretty weird eyes, you know). Instead of yellow, it's a nice, minty green ^^! Wonderful, that Watchog is. Nice to look at. Anyway, time for my fourth and final shiny encounter, which also took place in Pokemon White. I have my sister to blame for this epic fail... We found a shiny Vanillish in a wet, rain forest-y part of Unova (where else ?), and I was determined to catch it. Instead of its eyes and icicles being blue, they were a marvelous purple, and I had to have it; purple was my favorite color ever! Without thinking, though, she attacked the level thirty shiny with a level sixty Pokemon of her main team, and it was a one-hit knock out -.-! It all happened on December 30, 2012, by the way XD. My cousin was with us, too (the same one with whom I traded the shiny Graveler). A few days ago, when it was December, we wouldn't stop bugging her about it XD. And how it was the 'first anniversary' of the Vanillish. Which also happens to be my favorite youtuber, giancarloparimango11,'s birthday ... Anyway, my point here is - every shiny I ever encountered was through grass. So, if you want ease, hatch some eggs, if you want to be happy and surprised upon encounter, don't go hunting or hatching; it will come to you eventually . NintendoFanKimmy, out!

I really don't breed very much in the game, and i seem to have better luck by just going out and getting some chains. I haven't had any success with the breeding thing.

I guess I like the breeding more because of the challenge, but in order for me to do that, I would actually need to get my own shiny Pokemon. It’s just so hard for me to get.

ROCKYROCKEST : The only shiny pokemon I've gotten were caught; I'm not very lucky in breeding shiny pokemon.
