Hey everybody,

I'm relatively new here, I've been playing games for a few days now and just decided to post. I'm from Wisconsin.  I'm a college student majoring in history education. I decided to join this site because it seems like a fun place. It will also be a fun way to destroys some free time I get during winter break(when not working or with girlfriend and family). That's pretty much the extent of my introduction. Thanks for reading.

Thank you, pacman.  The site seems to be very user friendly. I'm definitely enjoying all the great childhood memories of playing some of these game bring back(and finding other games that I never got to play)

I was going to tell you that the owner also lives in Wisconsin, but I guess pacman beat me to it. XD

However, I must say that your intro got me all excited.  ANOTHER teacher on vizzed?!?!?!  Oh man, hurry up and get your degree so you can join the group of teachers here on vizzed!!!! XD  You might want to say hello to

Elara :

Who is in the same teaching business that you are.    What made you want to teach, and how close are you to realizing that dream?  You must be pretty passionate about it, since you put history in your username. XD

But I guess this IS a gaming site and so I should be asking more game related questions.  lol

What is your favorite game and what's your least favorite?  I highly suggest reading through this and seeing if you want to participate, or at least striking up conversation with other members. The user base here is awesome, and respect is emphasized throughout the site.

Happy holidays, and God bless!

(I teach math, btw.)

Hola! Welcome to Vizzed!

As Singelli mentioned, I am also in the history teaching business... just finished getting my MA about a week ago in fact. What areas of history are you hoping to teach?

That said... since I should also stick to the gaming... do you like the various "historical" games that are on the market?

Singelli :

I didn't realize the community of teachers that called this site home, that's such an exciting resource to have available! I got my degree in December(yesterday, actually), but my student teaching doesn't end until January. I guess I'm technically graduated, but I don't really consider myself graduated yet because there's so much to learn and truly understand about education.

What got me to wanting to teach was actually my 6th grade social studies teacher. He had noticed I was really excited and interested in our Ancient Rome unit at the start of the year, so he had me be the group leader and I just embraced it and jumped in. From then on, it just sparked a love of history in me. I was able to thank him for showing me what I wanted to do before graduating high school.

Favorite game is Mario Kart, a lot of great memories associated with that game and playing it with friends. I don't think I have least favorite game to be perfectly honest with you.

What made you want to teach?

oh yeah.. it's totally awesome that there are so many teachers here, and I know that I'm not even aware of who all here might share our profession. If you have the time, I highly suggest checking out the "Fountain of Knowledge" forums. They're designed for us teachers to communicate. As for 'so much to learn', that's something that never, ever ends. Even 6 years into my career, I feel like I learn more every year, and like there's so much more for me to find out. I hope you enjoy teaching as much as you think you will.

Which Mario Kart do you enjoy the most? (As in, what version for what system?)

The reason I chose to teach is quite long and complicated, but it has a lot to do with my twin and how she struggled with school, as well as all the 'wrongs' in public education that I wanted to correct.

Singelli :

I most enjoy Mario Kart 64. Maybe that's what it is for me, education is always evolving and there's always new ways to take on the challenge of teaching.

Elara :

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I'm finally figuring this out! I'm wanting to teach High School US History, also a little world history is fun to me. I was student teaching with a 9th grade US History class, which was a lot of fun. What grade are you hoping to teach?

I've only played a few historically themed games, I've played a few of the Medal of Honor games which are fairly interesting. Have you played many/have any suggestions for games to check out?

mariowin13 :

Thanks, I'm very much enjoying my time on Vizzed! A lot of fun games to play and interesting to boards to read.

historyguy12 : I still really haven't developed a preference yet. Throughout student teaching I did US History, even when I was finishing up the last three weeks in Ireland... but I also specialized in Ancient history when I got my BA so I would love to teach world history. Grade-wise I am honestly torn. I like that the younger kids (grades 7-9) are a bit less jaded but I also would like the older students because I could do more in depth projects with them to make them think. I did most of my student teaching with 7th graders and I really did love them and their enthusiasm. but there were a lot of concepts that were hard for them...though they honestly surprised me with how well they picked some things up.

I am usually disappointed with historical games since they often bend reality... I honestly think that things like Medal of Honor are the closest to accurate as they get. Yet many kids play things like Assassin's Creed and think it's all accurate when it isn't... though I do tip my hat to those games for getting kids interested in history. My cooperating teacher for my 7th graders said that the year before I was there he had a long discussion with a student about Assassin's Creed 3.
