I learned earlier this year that taking to much Tylenol can damage your liver if you don't take it right or take to much. I used to take it alot so I switched over to Ibprohen and/or Advil. I still take it sometimes.

Do you take Tylenol or another meds for pain? Or did you not know this fact.

I mean, most medicine comes with both its benefits and its side effects. It's pretty hard to find a drug that doesn't have a potential risk for something. The maximum recommended dose of Tylenol is 3000 milligrams a day, although that may change depending on body weight, and that's quite a lot, especially since it usually comes in 500 mg tablets and recommended to take once every 6 hours or something.

Interestingly enough, ibuprofen has a smaller max dose than Tylenol, at 1200 mg a day, and has the potential to cause renal failure. But both liver damage and renal failure are considered pretty serious but rare side effects if you're following the dosing recommendations (or listening to your doctor).

Personally, I like Tylenol, just because it works better for me. I end up having to take the children's kind though, since I can't swallow pills.

I didn't know about that. I assumed it had some bad effect to it though. I mainly use Ibuprofen/Advil since it's what my parents buy. But the side effects to that look to be similar.

Tylenol can do that, but mainly if you are taking particularly high doses of it. If you follow the dose instructions, then side effects like that are very rare. Most of the time when it isn't an issue with improper dose, it is a matter of taking it while consuming something else that is damaging to your liver, such as alcohol. You shouldn't have to worry if you have never experienced liver problems after taking it before.

Bintsy :

yeah tylonel and ibuprofen are drugs this is how your body works.

when you take these drug your body build a custom to it. meaning you would have to take more and more to feel more release
over all it does kill you , drugs are made to treat, not to heal or fix, to temporary relieve you of your pain.

what most people don't know is that and how this society work because mostly your insurance will pay for the drugs or not
but your the one paying for it thus making you loose money monthly.

tell me whats your pain maybe i can help. Doctor do not Heal people they treat. a hard fact i learn and it upsetting me.

they won't give you straight forward answer they'll give you option that is costly.

haunter923 : Well I used to get very bad migrains and I used to take tylenal PM to help me sleep sense I have a sleeping disorder. I'm doing alot better. I don't get migrains or headaches anymore as long as I don't focus on something for numerous amounts of hours. My sleeping is better because I take some medicene that helps me sleep so overall I'm doing really well.

Bintsy : hmm that not good im glad your feeling well now but the truth of the matter is that everything you consume goes through your liver and worst is that it's tylenol which is a drug to help you relieve pain dealing with your nerve system.

and your nerve system bases are located on the brain and bottom of your feet.

this is my prediction.

after the age of 40 your body will start to shut down at this rate. your migraine will lead into a brain tumor and you'll probably stop walking properly this is just a worst case scenario I've seen it happen tho
but your in good hands i can help you fix this easily

haunter923 : Haha, that's horrible!!! And I am fine.. I haven't ever abused taking it and I have always took the right dose. My body is pretty healthy right now besides my weight. I eat alot better and I do things to keep my body healthy. That's so dramatic sounding even though its true about the prediction you made!

I take pain medication very infrequently, only when the pain is too difficult to manage. Otherwise - like haunter pointed out - the effectiveness of the pain medication is lessened.

My pain medication of choice is ibuprofen (which is similarly hard on your stomach and liver if you take too much). I take about two tablets per month on average.

I take Tylenol for very bad pain. I've only taken it a few times, once was after my wisdom teeth surgery, and then when I had strep throat and it was so painful I couldn't swallow.

Annette : Wow that's horrible pain, wisdom teeth and strep throat! I used to take stuff more often when I was younger but like you I only take a certain amount every month.. because unless I get into to much pain I don't need it.

All of those type of NSAIDS can damage your stomach, kidney and/or liver. Ibuprofen and Aleve/naproxen included.

They are all good tools to manage minor nagging pain - when taken in moderation.

I took ibuprofen for 2 weeks to help stretch out my spine to undo my nerve which is known as sciatica
stretching with sciatica was so painful to the point I could pass out. So ibuprofen help a little but two week of crazy stretching pain with little help to relieve it was worth it vs taking loads of medicine
