According to an article I read, In 2011, the average American spent $646 on holiday gifts. Personally, my family has never traditionally spent too much on holiday gifts; having said that, I do have quite a small family.

I know this sounds strange to most people.
My family is going through financial hard times so instead of gifts we are getting together for a whole 2 days and spend some good time together.  Big meals, movies, and lots of fun!  I might splurge and make a few candy gift baskets but I can't afford more than that.
The point of the holidays is about family and loving one another.  As long as we are together everything is good in our sight!
