It's just as the question says. The classics refers to the original sidescrollers and Metroidvania refers to games like Symphony of The Night, Dawn of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance and such. I prefer Metroidvania. So much fun.

The side scrollers are really cool, no question about it, but the Metroidvania's RPGish elements just bring more to the table, and it made the games more playable. I can play those more often than the classics.
