Pokémon Fire
Red and Leaf Green Chapter
Seven: Leaf’s Memory Breaks Free
Yellow looked really tired after he came
back from his training session with Blue. In fact, he collapsed as soon as he
set foot in the lobby! I shook his shoulder. “Yellow? Yellow?” Yellow blinked
then rubbed his eyes. “Oh. Hi, Red!” I grabbed his hand and pulled him up.
Then, again, was that flush of red in his cheeks. Perhaps he was stressed. Pika
was fast asleep in Yellow’s arms, and Yellow didn’t seem far from it either. “Maybe
you should sleep a little,” I suggested. With that, Yellow lay down on the dark
pink couch next to the chair I was sitting on.
About a split-second
later, the door to the lobby slammed open, and Blue walked in, also worn out. “Whew…”
he exclaimed as he sat down next to me. He leaned his head on the wall behind
him. “That was fun…” Then, I glanced
over at Yellow, whose face didn’t seem to agree. I think he had a different
definition of the word ‘fun’. Not long after, an exhausted Leaf also made her
way into the room, and collapsed on the seat next to mine. Almost immediately,
her head plopped down on my shoulder, and she ventured to cloud nine. “Wow…” I
thought. “They must have been through a lot.” I took a look at all of my
friends, Yellow, Blue, and Leaf. Then, I decided it would be best if I took a
nap as well. And so I did.
I was awoken by Charmy. It
wasn’t on purpose, but his flaming tail was close to my lovely red cap, and the
heat was so intense, I bolted straight up. It was a good thing, too, because it
would have caught fire. I got up and dusted my baggy, blue jeans. “Ouch!”
yelled a now wide awake Leaf, whose head had just hit the chair I was sitting
on. “O-oh! Leaf! Sorry!” I went over to help her up. “I forgot your head
collapsed on my shoulder. You must have been exhausted.” She nodded. “Yeah…” After
that, Blue woke up, stretching his arms and yawning loudly. Then, he started
scratching his back. “Ah, that was a good rest.” Pika was up, too, and it looked worried. I
kneeled down to its eye level. “Hey, Pika! What’s wrong?” It frantically looked
up and down, left and right, sniffing around; he seemed to be looking for
something. Pika pointed his tail towards the dark pink couch.
It was clear – Yellow was
not there. Blue gave Pika a slap to the back. “Chill. Maybe he’s just in the
bathroom or something.” I suggested we look outside. The three of us walked
outside of the Pokémon Center, and off to Viridian Forest – which we had gone
through to get to Pewter City in the first place. We had skipped Viridian City,
because I had heard its Gym was closed temporarily. Anyway, we were searching
for Yellow. Just before giving up, we noticed him sitting high up on a tree,
apparently talking to Pokémon. “Yo, Yellow!” we called. He turned his attention
to us. I wasn’t sure why, but Leaf gasped. Yellow immediately stopped ‘talking’
to the Mankey, and hopped down with ease.
“O-oh! Hey guys!” he said
somewhat frantically, adjusting his hat. “I- I was just… petting this Mankey,
here!” he continued, with an uneasy giggle.
Blue rolled his eyes. Then, Yellow scoffed at him. They really weren’t
the best of friends. “Alright, then…” I said. “I’m going to explore the city a
bit. Want to come?” Blue treaded after me. “Right behind you.” Yellow shook her
head. “I’ve already been to every corner with Pika while you were off to the
Gym, Red. Remember?” I did. “Oh, yeah.” I said. “Leaf, are you coming.” She
turned to me. “Um – no! I think I’ll stay here with Yellow for a bit.” Then,
Blue and I started walking way. “Alright then, see you!” I’m going to continue
on with this part from Leaf’s point of view. She told me what had happened
after our whole adventure was almost at an end.
After Red and Blue left, I
sat down next to Yellow. I looked at him. “Yellow... Do you…” I took a deep
breath. “Remember me? From three years ago?” Yellow scratched his head. Then,
he shook it. “Nope. I don’t think so, Leaf.” I had a feeling he did though. “Yellow,”
I said, grabbing his arm. “Look at me.” Yellow looked into my eyes. Then, his
eyes were glistening. He thought about it long and hard. “Yes! Now I do! Y- you’re
that girl! The one who was looking for Red! In Viridian Forest!” I was more
than happy at that moment. I nodded. “Yes. I thought it was you. You… weren’t
feeding that Mankey, were you?” Yellow looked surprised. “Oh.” He said. “So you
do remember…” I nodded once more. “I remember everything you told me that day.
And I know that’s not your only secret.” Yellow clutched his hat. I smiled. “So
you followed the advice I gave you.” “Yeah.” The girl nodded. “But please don’t
tell Red and Blue.” she said. I laughed, and patted her shoulder. “Don’t worry.
I won’t. you can count on me! I just find it really cool that we met again be
chance!” Yellow seemed to agree. “U-huh.” she said. “Let’s catch up with Red
and Blue now.” I helped her up, and we walked back into the city.
And now back to my point
of view. That’s what happened when we left them behind. I know now because she
told me at the end of our journey. After this point, Blue and I were still
absolutely clueless about Yellow and ‘his’ secrets. For the rest of this story,
until the right time, I will say “he” when referring to Yellow, as I did not
know back then. Just when Blue and I where done sightseeing, we heard Leaf and
Yellow call out to us from behind. “Hey, guys!” We turned to them. “Hi! We were
just about finished! So, do you think we’re ready to head off to the next city,
and our next challenge?” “Yeah!” the four of unnecessarily yelled, then
high-fived. “Let’s go!”
