Anybody ever make/use "slugs" aka fake quarters?

After falling in love with SFII at the convience store down the street, I met up with a kid who knew how to make "slugs", basically they are fake quarters that trick the machine.  We used to make them out of this roofing material that they no longer use and just cut them out using a quarter as a template.  We'd get caught using them sometimes because they wouldn't work perfectly all the time, you would have to keep retrying the same slug until the machine would accept it and this would sometimes draw attention and because we were so young they would always just kick us out of the store! As a result of all this I got extremely good at games like contra, SFII: The world warrior among others.

So anybody else have any experience with fake quarters, or slugs, or some other way to get free games, let me know.
