Another quickie I wrote after I finished my test. Memory can be warped as time goes on, so I played around with that in this one.

Broken Memory

What a slippery, vile thing
That creeps into us all!
And with it comes the curse it brings,
The grinding and slowing of Time to a stall.

It distorts our minds and senses,
Changing and disrupting the past.
It hems us in with invisible fences
That last and last and last.

It steals our loved ones away,
Making them strangers.
It never comes to play
Without considerable danger.

And yet it shows what we once were,
What we thought we might have been,
Glimpses of what has occurred,
Both beautiful actions and hideous sins.

It seduces us into a different state,
One we recall with fondness.
How can we this savior hate,
When it has brought us out of the present’s bondage?

Better to be trapped in broken memory
Than painful, cruel eternity.

And I feel I can relate in some respects, I've never had a very strong memory-but the thought of having none is almost scary!  We use it to define who we are, even though we may sometimes be plagued, worrying we forgot someone important.  Though in a sense, I suppose we aren't our memories either, in fat it could be argued the reverse, that they keep us from being who we are XD.

In any event nice poem, keep it up! Great talent.
