Have you ever wondered how things in nature would act if they were people? I always have fun imagining the sun and moon as people, whom I named Sol and Luna. I actually wrote a story about them that I (promptly) quit because it didn't quite work... but I returned to the idea in this short poem. I think it's a little (okay, a lot) sappy, but I'm sharing it anyway.
In an alternate universe, the sun and moon are people.
For You, the Stars
My dear- When I first saw you dance, It was like a blissful trance; And your smile, so quick and sweet, Matched my heart’s thudding drumbeat.
When you tripped into my arms, I lost all and any qualms. On that fateful day, Our heartstrings began to play.
That’s when we fell in love, m’dear, A boat we cannot steer. The water is wide, but Through stranger tides…
We have prevailed.
You were taken from me, Dark all I could see, And, my queen, I made a promise. I vowed this And this Alone.
“Unhand my queen, you fiends! For naught you understand I will do everything in my power To upon yours heads shower my wrath!
“For her, I’d tear the firmament apart, And break every single heart. For her, I’d dim the stars. I’d even change the course of Mars.
“You have now enraged The king of an immortal age, A ruler above time itself, Who you’d better beg for help.”
So they gave you back, m’dear, And you have nothing to fear. For you, I’d stamp out the stars, My dove, and shatter every moon. Have no worries, my love, they won’t come Anytime soon.
There is nothing that can keep us apart Except, perhaps, your heart, For I am king of day And you are night, come to play.
How can they touch me, the golden one? I am their fiery sun. How dare they bring you gloom, Their solitary moon?
Luna, blow me a kiss.
Of course, Sol. Consider it
A gift.
