Does anyone know what the difference between meteors, meteorites, and asteroids are? I have always wondered. To me they are all the same. Is there an actual difference or not?

Meteors are what Meteorites are called while they are still in space. Meteorites is what the surviving rock is called once it enters the atmosphere and lands on Earth. Asteroids are large, almost planet-sized rocks in orbit along with the rest of the solar system.

Meteors burn up as they move closer to our atmosphere

Meteorites are said to be meteoroids that survived the earths atmosphere and collided with the earths surface

An asteroid doesn't have a visible coma and are made from rock and metal.

I believe that this is the difference from meteors, meteorites and asteroids. I may have gotten some details wrong.

A user of this : you ninja'd me

I also have been wanting to know some of the differences. I to this day thought meteroites and asteroids were about the same just acted on things differently and Meteors I thought they also related to them in some way. I guess I need to study more in Science.

B619ook, and A user of this.  You are both right with your explanations.  So I think that this thread should be closed, as the question has been answered at least once.

nightfireplunder : To summon the mods, type "Local Mods" and then put a ":" This is the same way you summon a regular user. Like this:

Looocal Mods :

I spelled it wrong on purpose because I am a mod and there is no need to summon us. Just wanted to show you an example.
