Here's another review by IB122 and this time, it's on New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS. This have went back to the old side-scrolling days, but with a modern 3D twist. This game was released in 2006, and with the newer progresses coming out with the 7th generations, they want this game to blossom to the modern look, so that's why we got New Super Mario Bros, and this game is the 2nd Mario game that has entered the Nintendo DS (after Super Mario 64 DS) The Graphics: The Graphics in the the game is pretty amazing for the handheld game. By looking at the graphics when I'm playing this game, it looks like the character spites are a little more detailed and more clearer, and it's not just with the character spites what I really like about this game's graphics, it's also the environment you're playing in each of the world, personally with each of the different worlds I play in which really makes this game stand out, by looking at how the background is designed, it's just amazing, it gives it a farther point of view than you seen with previous side-scrolling Mario games, and this is the main graphics that really set in the future New Super Mario Bros. games in the future, so all and all, the graphics in the game came out really fantastic, the only downside I have to say with the graphics, some are a little bit off, but it's so little, it's barely noticeable. With all the great graphics, I give this a 9 out of 10 ---- The Sound/Music: The sound effects in the game is pretty outstanding, the reason why I say it is it's because they brought the classic sounds we hear from the classic Mario games on NES/SNES but those sounds are much clearer than ever in this game, and also in this game is where I hear Mario's voice, but not a whole lot though, mostly whenever you beat the level and in the level As for the Music, I think it's a really fantastic job, the reason why, they brought a lot of music we're familiar with in Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3, and sound with a modern remix with them to make it sound so much nicer in each level, and not just bring back old music from the past, but also adding in newer tunes for the game as well. On how much I think the Sound and Music came onto this game, I'll give this a 9 out of 10 ---- The Addiction Level: The game can be pretty addicting if you put it to a certain extent, to me, I think this game is quite addicting, because hey, it's Super Mario and I think Mario games are pretty addicting, for this game in general, I personally think it'll be played by a whole lot of people that has a Nintendo DS with them and if they do, this will be the game those people will more likely have for their handheld. For my opinion why I think this game is pretty addicting to my own words, it's both the main game with all the things to do like becoming Mega Mario and just smash though everything, or it can also be the mini-games, with all you can try out, it's really wants someone to play this game over and over again. I would personally give the addiction level a 9 out of 10 ---- The Story: The story in the game is the same old same old, Bowser happens to kidnapped Princess Peach, but what makes this different than other Mario games, in the beginning, both Mario and Peach is walking around in the Mushroom Kingdom and all of a sudden, Lakithunder shows up above the castle and start destroying it and Mario sees the castle, so he went over to see what's going on and all of a sudden behind Mario's back, Bowser Jr. went and grabs Peach and drags her all the way to Bowser's castle and on the way, they all stop and the world's towers and castles which each one has a unique boss depending on the world you're playing in. and once you get to Bowser's castle, you got to face his obstacles, and have to battle him again and free Peach once again. With it using pretty much the same story from previous Mario games (but with a unique twist though) I give this an 8 out of 10 ---- The Depth: With the Depth, I do got to say, they really nailed with the Depth, they combined all they did in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World and created this game which to my mind is pretty outstanding move, for the power-ups, se see the return of the Super Mushroom and the Fire Flower, but on top of that, we happen to get a few brand new power-ups like the mini-mushroom where Mario is half the size of the normal small Mario, the Mega mushroom where it makes Mario like 5 time bigger than Super Mario and can just smash things in your way, and a Blue Shell where Mario can now be a koopa. Also, this game has introduced a ton of new enemies into the game as well classic enemies returning once again in a new format. It's also not just the level I can say, with everything I mentioned above, I surly give this a perfect 10 out of 10 ---- The Difficulty: The difficulty level in New Super Mario Bros. isn't that bad, in fact, it's at a pretty decent difficulty level for a Mario game, although when you're first playing the game, it can be a little tricky, but once you get used to it, it's smooth sailing through the whole game and when you're used to the game, you'll find it pretty easy, and like I mentioned in the Depth, it's not just the main game, but let's also focus on the mini-games, some of those games can be hard, depending on where your last record stand, if you've played the mini-games for a little while, some of your records can be a little difficult to accomplish, but that is pretty typical that the more you play onto the level, the harder it'll become, but other than those I have describe, the difficulty is average for a Mario game. By scaling up the difficulty levels on both the main game and the mini-games, I happen to give this an 8 out of 10 ---- Overall: Overall with this game, to my opinion, this is one of the great Mario games out there and being the first game in the new side-scrolling game and this game being the benchmark for the future New Super Mario Bros. games in the future like NSMB Wii, U, and 2. By that meaning, this game really revolutionized the whole Mario series, with a 3D format in a side-scroller. Overall for this game on how it function with the Nintendo DS and with all the categories I mentioned above for this game, I would like to give this game a 9 out of 10 for being one great game (just a few minor things, but still). Great review man! You did a much better job with New Super Mario Bros then I did. We had alot of the same opinions of the game and our scores were about the same for most part. The only thing that I rated lower then you did was the story and depth. I loved seeing what you thought of the game. I think I will leave DS reviews for you lol. You did a much better job but at least now I know I was on the right track with my review. |
