Okay so this is what happens when I spend all day watching retro video games on YouTube all day. Like I said I was watching retro-gaming videos all day and noticed that most of the time, when a console fails there are obvious reasons, the virtuaboy, phillips cdi, 3do and others that failed did so b/c of fairly obvious things.
When it comes to the Dreamcast and even somewhat the Saturn the reasons get a little more blurry. One of the more interesting things I heard was from an IGN reviewer who said, and it makes sense to me, is that Sega had kinda "burned" it's owners. Starting with theSega ccd, 32X and then through to the Saturn, Sega asked us to buy a new system "or expensive add-on" and then very little effort, or at the least games, was given to support the our purchase . So by the time Dreamcast came out maybe there just wasn't enough faith left in Sega for the system even though badass for its day to sell well.
Now is where my questions come in to play. Do gamers feel guilty for clearly abandoning Sega so quickly back then, that when they talk about the systems now, the guilt bleeds through in their opinions?
It seemed like a good explanation for a "cult" following to form and also what I hear of people's opinions of Sega's failed systems and thought maybe vizzed might have some opinions on the subject.
People on the internet with opinions, never!!!!
