I just got home from watching the movie Gravity. To be honest I think it is just ok. I could end my review there but for your entertainment I won't.

To start the film stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Which are the only two characters if you don't count the galaxy and earth as one. So if you do see this film you better love these actors since you will be seeing a lot of them. Which made me a bit angry when I found this out but that is besides the point.

Lets get to the plot. Our protagonist Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) Is a medical engineer on her firs mission into space with Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). While out on a normal spacewalk the shuttle they are attached to is struck by satellite debris, leaving Matt and Ryan spiraling through space. The story follows these two as they try and save each other's lives from inhospitable space and back on earth.

*****************************************Potential spoilers after this point if you don't want to know anything further stop reading now*************

Now that we have the messy plot out of the way lets get to the meat of this review. To be honest I didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I went into the film thinking that it would be similar to Apollo 13 where you see NASA trying to save their lives of the astronauts. Hell you don't even hear from them the whole film. And because of this you really don't feel like either of them are in as much danger as they are. But that is my only grievance with the movie. I'll just list them 3D is poor at best, there are scenes where water droplets hit the screen and spread I hate that stuff it breaks the fourth wall, the death scenes matter little because there is no emotional attachment to anyone. The only one in the theater that felt anything when people died was the kid three seats down from me and he was like ten. But this movie does have a lot of good stuff in it the scenes of the cosmos and of earth are brilliant I can't tell you how beautiful they are with words. And that is where this movie really shines if someone would take all the scenes where only earth and the galaxy are shown I would watch it at least twenty times, if they put it to some Pink Floyd I would watch it a hundred times. Those scenes are just gorgeous and are the only reason why you should see this in 3D. But if you do don't be prone to motion sickness there is a lot of stuff spinning and I actually got dizzy. If you don't get motion sickness it is worth it to spend the thirty bucks to go to imax and watch it will take your breath away. Now lets see all movies have an end good or bad they have an end. This one is actually great. it makes up for a lot of this movies mistakes. Which the soundtrack for this movie is a large one indeed because it is such a big mistake I want to address this one head on. The soundtrack isn't bad it isn't great but not bad I actually enjoyed it but hear is where it failed this movie was made to be quiet during some scenes like while Ryan was in the ISI escape pod but I had short notes playing in my ear while she floated there in this beautiful scene which I found was ruined by sound. Also the movie was loud when it shouldn't be kind of taking a note from transformers and just being loud at times. I guess this is nit picking but still it bugged me when the music made a big deal out of things when they shouldn't have. Also the biggest mistake this movie made was the improbability of it all. I know space shuttles could possible get hit by space debris I understand it is very likely but that isn't it there are two scenes that are just so improbable they can't be ignored. The first is when Ryan gets on the ISI and starts looking inside for something to communicate with matt and Huston she floats past a electrical panel which has sparked a small flame. she is in a completely oxygen environment the satellite would burst into flames once that flame ignited not just float there. but this was a kind of wish fulfillment for the film because something even more improbable happens latter when she uses a fire extinguisher to propel her towards another satellite. Its just a plot hole that pisses me off. Now to the rating.

******************************************Spoilers over rating below************************************************************************************

I rate movies on 5 scales: visuals, sound, plot, characters, and my personal enjoyment.

The visuals were spectacular I have to rate this high so visualy I give this movie a 9.6 because they are stunning but there are scenes that take away from the stunning visuals of earth and or the galaxy

Sound I went into detail about this earlier some scenes I was kind of taken out by the sound and music so 5.8. when the sound works for this movie it works but when it doesn't it doesn't

Plot was kind of half done but it was different and interesting its somewhat of a space epic without aliens. I give the plot a 8.75

Characters. actually more so character most of this movie is Ryan but she is well developed you don't feel sorry for her but she is just a well developed character although a bit emo at times. Plus George F***ing Clooney always plays a good character although he is best being playing a millionaire playboy, he does play a good Matt when he has screen time. Characters/character 8.9

And now my personal enjoyment. Actually I enjoyed this movie not a lot but I enjoyed watching it even with its giant plot holes and wish fulfillment I give it a 7.8 for my enjoyment.

recap:
Visual:9.6
Sound:5.8
Plot:8.75
Characters:8.9
Personal enjoyment:7.8
total:8.17

I suggest watching this movie at the very least renting it when it comes to DVD.
Stay classy internet.

Fallman7 : I agree with the visuals, I really liked the way it looked, all the special effects brought the movie up a bit.

OK sorry for the wait guys I got busy with work. But today I'm reviewing summer wars It is one of my favorite movies of all time. Mainly because I went through a similar situation not the over all story arc but some of the moments could be taken straight from my life. SO lets dig in. Our story follows Kenji a mathematics genius who is so good at math he was Japan's runner up for the math Olympics. He also works for a social networking site called OZ. To picture it just imagine facebook combined with twitter and everything else technically OZ is the internet now everything is on it social networking the government, and even real-estate or even car dealerships. Yes you can buy a car or a home from this place its pretty cool to be honest I wish it existed. Kenji gets tricked into going to the countryside by Natsuki by convincing him it is just a job. Now that first five minutes was just a small amount of setup for the bigger story Which picks up and to be honest every time I lose track of time because you are just sucked in by this film.****************** Ok Spoilers after this point.**********************

After the first five minutes we start to meet members of natsuki's family who are describing who their family used to be and now the family has very little influence with the exception of grandma who knows pretty much every person of power in japan. She is a very loveable character but she is quite intimidating which Kenji finds out when he meets her after arriving at her giant house. We also find out that Natsuki tricked Kenji into coming here to be her boyfriend/fiancé and when Natsuki introduces him to grandma there is a very intense scene where grandma asks him if he would die for Natsuki it is almost like something from a mafia movie. After this Kenji meets the rest of the family And to be honest you don't really need to know most of them several of them are plot devices but not in the traditional since in that you don't need to know them but you do.  Because all of these characters have one token quality to them like the drunk uncle or the angry cousin that doesn't want his cousin to get married and your head of the family and this is where the movie excels it build on these characters so you actually give a damn about them and feel like they are real. I can name people in my family that are like them. After dinner and the usual family talks kenji wonders around the house looking for the bathroom. Then we have a scene that doesn't matter much at the time it almost feels like filler but it matters latter on Kenji finds a kind in his room playing video games on OZ. Which he asks "why aren't you eating with the rest of us" the kid then says "the bathroom is that way" I love this kid. When then meet natsuki's uncle wabisuki. Who is her first love she based Kenji's character to play around her family on Wabisuki. Wabisuki is also the late grandfather's bastard and most of the family hates him because he stole half of granny's land sold it and went to America.
Later that night Kenji receives a message from OZ with the words solve me. He solves the code and finds himself stuck in the middle of a developing news story the next day. When OZ was hack over night Kenji is now the prime suspect in the investigation. Although it seems to just be a harmless prank for now. But it turns out Kenji had his avatar stolen from him and the real hacker is an A-I by the name of "love machine" I know it sounds like a bad porno but this thing is bad news it starts screwing with computer systems around japan messing with gps systems and just causing problems for the whole country. Kenji and the kid from earlier who is name kazuma AKA king kazma who is Oz's martial arts champion basically he is the best at fighting games. Anyway they realize this and Kazuma tries to fight it while Kenji hacks into OZ to give control back to the admins it is a success and everyone thinks that it is over and go back to normal. Meanwhile Grandma begins calling prominent members of japan to fight the ill affects of the A-I this works muck to the chagrin of love machine who continues to steal avatars which are around 10 million at the time one of which is for a heart monitoring company. Which granny is hooked up to and ultimately leads to her death in the middle of the night. Which I will be honest starts a scene that every time  I see I always cry It just reminds me so much of when my uncle died suddenly it is also some of the most beautiful animation I have seen. Kenji then inlists the help of most of the men from the family with the exception of Wabisuki and cousin Shota to try and imprison love machine. Unfortunately this doesn't work  because the A-I controls 400 million accounts now and is starting to control a satellite causing it to move toward earth onto a nuclear reactor somewhere in the world which could cause a huge fallout.. By this time the family finally realizes the seriousness of the situation as a time starts to tick down until the time of impact. The family then tries to take back the accounts by wagering their accounts in a game of Japanese hanafuda While Wabisuki hacks into love machine. (which I can't figure out how to play for the life of me and I actually tried). They wager their accounts and take back 1 million when they lose and are not able to place the minimal bet. When other people from around the world begin to offer their accounts to bet. They eventually get back all but 10 accounts when the love machine changes where the satellite will hit. It then begins to chorine with their house. To try and stop this Kenji manages to hack into the satellite's gps while Wabisuki saps love machine's defenses. Then to put the final nail in love machines coffin King Kazma comes back to finish him off. And that is where the movie pretty much ends.

Now instead of going through my conventional summary of why I chose the rating for each category I will skip that and say I will give this movie an 10 out of 10. Why this movie reminds me of my life and my family I love every bit of it. I say watch it rent it steal it from the internet or buy it. It is defiantly a movie most people will like or even love.
Alright stay classy internet and see you latter this week.
