well you can't go wrong with any of the music from the final fantasy series directed by nobuo uematsu. the man is one of the musical greats. even though some of the latest installments have pretty decent music, i just don't feel like they can even compare with the psone trilogy (FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX)

I'd have to say the mega man games have the best music. Not because there my favorite but there epic tracks that are sorta like trance or techno. There upbeat and keep your had in the game. They also seem to fit right into the levels they're being played on and are good on the ears.

EDIT: I also think the Halo games have good soundtracks and epic music. Makes you feel like your in the game, like your about to do something really extraordinary.

In retro games, Mega-Man 2 and 3 are the ultimate win. For newer games, though, check out the soundtracks of Klonoa 1 and 2. They're very underrated but awesome. The Windmill Song and Baladum's Theme are epic from Klonoa.

I know I said it before and I'm going to say it again, but last week I was playing Mega Man 4, and Skull-Mans music is freaking awesome! It's pretty intense and has a good beat to it, along with Pharaoh Man and a couple others. Good game as well, one of my favorite Mega Man games too!

While the music in the Final Fantasy games, Ocarina of Time, Megaman, etc etc are amazing, my vote would have to be that the Golden Sun series has the best music. I could sit and listen to that music all day long.
