I think it is possible to have happiness without sadness but it mostly depends on what happens in your events of life. Just like how rcarter was talking about cycles before, emotions is kinda like a cycle too. Like a cycle of happiness comes from something that makes you happy, then that cycle will end when something happens that would make you sad. Thats what I think in my opinion...

My answer is no. Without sadness, your happiness would just stay happiness. Say there was a game with a six-sided die. But all of the sides show six dots. Everyone would be happy, but it will quickly wear off. In the end everything will be dull and nothing and no one would be happy. One more thing to keep in mind is that everyone has different needs. Say there was this thief and a selfish and rich man. If the thief steals from the rich man, he would be happy but the rich man would be sad. If the rich man kept a fool-proof security system however the rich man would keep his riches and stay happy while the thief would become 'sad'. That's my opinion though...

no. it is purely impossible. just as you cannot have hot without cold, dark without light, or hatred without love. there is an intrinsic duality that requires one for the other. if you never know sadness, then how can you possibly think you are happy? you have nothing to contrast it to, and that is all that "happiness" is. your personal interpretation of chemicals released by your brain, contrasted against other interpretations of similar yet differing chemicals releases.

tl;dr
contrast is required. with nothing to compare happiness to, there is no happiness, just existence.

No you can not experience happiness without sadness. First off before you can even become happy you would need to be sad... if you were never sad there is no way you could ever be happy and if you were happy all the time then how could you not of been sad at least once. I agree with what most of people said but one thing that is exclusive to this question is you have to have sadness before any happiness comes along.

Well yeah .. you'd just be happy all the time . I mean ... sadness is kinda important .... if you don't get sad then you might supress things that can lead to brain tumors if I am right :3 But happiness can exist without sadness .
