I would love to be a video game designer! I could get paid a lot and I would be able to test new games! That would be so freakin' awesome!

Wouldn't any hardcore gamer be interested in this? lol

I actually am trying to break into a career as a Video Game designer right now. A few friends and I have formed a team, and are working on releasing our first game! If all goes according to plan, we'll make a business out of it. Maybe we can share it with some of you fine folks on Vizzed.

I do have to debunk the idea that you get payed to play games all day. You actually don't get payed to play them at all. Compared to the time you spend working on the game, you don't get much time playing it at all. It's actually quiet a bit of work. Our team hasn't even gotten into the coding stage yet, and we've already put days worth of work into our game, and there's no actual playing anywhere in our near future (on this game, that is). It takes a lot of planning, forethought, cooperation with your team members, and patience.

However, if you still want to be a designer after reading that, I would urge you to do so! You may be mocked and considered a starry-eyed gamer that just wants another excuse to be all about games, but it's a legitimate career choice these days, and entirely possible! Always follow your dreams. If you don't, you're guaranteed to have a mundane life, and many regrets. It's worth a shot. If you fail, at least you tried, and trying is better than settling for whatever comes your way.

Just be sure to pay extra close attention in school. Especially math and English. You'll need both (math for the coding, and English for the grammar and punctuation, if you plan to write the speech and/or text in the game).

Yeah I would! In fact, my dream job is to do anything in the video game industry. Working at Valve or Nintendo or something. I'm good at math and I have good grammar so I'm set!

Eirinn : Maybe the game you're working on can be for PC and have a exclusive first release on Vizzed!

I actually would not be a good video game designer since I have too many ideas and would end up just never finishing a product. I do say that if I could be a video game tester that is something I would do. Except in order to be a tester you are sent the video game and instead of being able to beat it all the way through you just have to go to certain areas and make sure it doesn't glitch. For example a friend of mine's cousin was a tester and they would literally send him a book of information on what to test and some of the testing was jumping in corners like 300-400 times to make sure the maps would not glitch. So not sure what the mastermind behind a video game being made would be called but I think that would be my position. I have really epic video game ideas even in working titles that would not take too long to make as long as I could just be the idea guy, give the makers a summary, and let them figure out the rest and what to add and subtract and change. Though I will be making my first Pokemon Hack soon which I am excited about and hopefully if I do well enough on that I could be a private video game hacker and just make awesome hacks.

A user of this : I would love to do that, but I don't think there would be a place to put it on Vizzed, since we currently only host consoles and such. I believe they've discussed hosting games that were made to run on Windows, but nothing is currently being worked on in that department, as far as I know. However, I might see about listing a link to it in this forum, if I can do so (should be able to, since there's a thread for sharing PC games).

I'm glad someone is interested in it though. It excites me, and inspires me to keep on working.
