One more quick question, are we allowed one assistant pokemon for the entire game play, or after the first assistant hits 25 could I go and get another pokemon under lv 25 as a new assistant? I'm assuming the former.

xstrike : Only one assistant for the whole game so choose wisely (you can use hm slaves as long as you don't level them though)
