I used the download that davideo7 provided to fix sims 3 cd problems. Now I can't get the latest update that sims 3 is providing for the game because I am getting an "update error invalid file found" when I try to finish the update install. HELP!!!! Is the download I used from Vizzed causing a problem with my update install??

I'm not sure if it is, I doubt it though because it's worked for 1,000's of people. Try re-installing.

I've tried reinstalling the sims update several times. It won't work. I looked other places online to see if anybody else was having the same problem with the sims update and found that several people were and said that it was because of the shader file so I deleted and tried reinstalling the update and still wouldn't work. It says the same thing "update error invalid file found" everytime I try to reinstall. The only thing I've ever done to my sims 3 is download lots and items from the sims 3 website and have used Davideo7 download to fix my cd problem. So, why won't the update install work? HELP!!!!

First and foremost, wrong forum there lass. If anywhere, Computer Games is where it should be.

Next, I keep seeing you saying "I've reinstalled the update."
Have you.. possibly considered reinstalling the entire game? As in the Sims 3?

Option 1: try downloading the update in its entire file from a site on the internet and install from that (I can find the update file for you if you cant find it)
Option 2: because the fix Davideo replaces the bad file with a working file the games updater wont run properly because it expects the old file to be there.
If you kept a copy of the old files you replaced you could try replacing the working files with the old bad files and run the update again.
If you didnt or dont know how to, just do what Neyro said and uninstall and install the game again then patch without using Davideos fix.

Thanks a bunch for the reply......
I'm not very smart when it comes to files and games on the computer, I just like to play them. So, I'm guessing that if I uninstall the game that it will erase everything I've done since I started playing it. Is this true? If so, is there another way around this? If there is another website that I can install the update from, I don't know where to find it. I did not keep the old files when I used Davideo fix for the cd problem because it automatically replaced them. If I have to reinstall the game in it's entirety I guess I will have to sacrifice everything I've done. Ouch, that's gonna hurt. If you can help, thanks!!

Ok.Yes, when installing you usually lose all information.

However, I can help you prevent that, and there are 2 ways to do this.
The first, is when uninstalling (Go try it) the client might say "Do you wish to keep all your saved data?".
This might or might not happen.
If it doesn't, on to plan B.

Now, all your saves are located in
My Documents --> Electronic Arts --> The Sims 3 ---> Saves

Copy and paste this folder somewhere as a back up.
I am -->NOT<-- sure if this is ALL you need to play your saved games. There might be more.

Next, uninstall the game by going to (Hopefully you have Windows) to Start --> Control Panel ---> Add/Remove Programs (Wait for it to populate the list) --> Sims 3 --> Uninstall.
Follow instructions.

Then reinstall and apply the update as per normal.

Then, copy and paste (not move) your backed-up saves to the same folder you got them from, overwriting the previous.

Done and dusted.

Make sure to reinstall all updates/bought content the save used when you played it.

Else it won't work.

EDIT: I reread your first post, now I'm guessing Dave's file is a no-cd crack.
Make sure to INSTALL THE UPDATE FIRST, before apply his fix.
Even if it's not, just make sure to. That way itt'l work.
Hell, try it without the fix after updating. It might work even then.

Yeah, the fix probally does include a no cd crack.
If you have never patched your game you can first try to download the patch off the internet and run it and see if it installs.
You can get it from http://download.cnet.com/The-Sims-3-v1-0-631-to-1-3-24-Comprehensive-DD-Patch/3000-7551_4-10964379.html
If it works it might save some hassle for you.

Thanks to all for your replies. None of the downloads worked. Thanks anyway. I tried. Looks like I will have to uninstall and reinstall my sims 3 altogether. Either that or just wait until I get tired of playing it and just uninstall it completely. The update provided by sims really didn't provide much of what I needed for game play anyway. I just thought I better update since there was one available. Again, I appreciate your help. I'm new to vizzed and it is great to know that there are others out there to help us little people in need.

No problem at all. You dont need to update if you dont want to anyway, sometimes its better not to in fact.
You can always read what update does what at http://www.thesims3.com/game/patches
The latest one upgrades some stuff, like adding some moodlets, but also removes some stuff, like babies no longer being able to be born to single parents.
That one makes the game more unrealistic to me
