Any tips on a layout for a nontrusted member?

I know nontrusted members don't really have that much resources at their hands. But, I've seen good layouts by nontrusted users. Any tips? Do you guys know how to get a good horizontal pictures that work? Also, what dimensions are good so they don't pagestretch? 

Just a few tips would be good. Remember, I'm not trusted.

The size of the picture in Google images (or wherever you get your pics from) is the same size as it will be in the layout. You can always move the pic to one side and put the text on the other. You can turn off the repeating image so that it won't repeat over and over again. I have been using the layout maker for normal members and I think I figured it out. My original picture couldn't cover the whole screen like I wanted, so I had to google this color palette thing where you could upload your picture and it'll tell you the HEX code for every color in that picture. I use the code as the background color so it would match with the boarders of my picture; ergo, making it look like the picture fits the post layout.
