After the tentacruel, can't get onto ferry to Maiden's Peak

Playing ash's quest has gone really smoothly, I had no issues with gym leaders or finding cut. But now, right after the island of giant pokemon, I am unable to board the ferry to Maiden's peak, or back the way I came through the Island of Giant Pokemon... Is this a glitch? I've tried entering the ferry from all sides available to player, and it does say "When ready, board the ship from the right" and still nothing happens...
