THe NFL is taking so much care about players and injuries and most injuries occur on kickoffs.  Will they exist in the next few years?  They're taking kickoffs away for the Pro Bowl.  When will it affect the regular season?

If It would reduce the amount of injuries I'm sure it'll happen eventually. Not to mention it gives the Coach one less thing to think about strategy-wise. However they would be changing the original rules of football doing so and some may think that they are destroying the game so... guess it's a toss up.

No, they won't take them away. It'll destroy the fan base, and I gaurentee there will riots and protests from players and fans alike.
I went to the last Pro Bowl, and thought it was kind of cool, but wouldn't go back. Now... With the new system, I want to take my father. But no kick offs? *steam starts to pour out my ears* you got a link to the foolishness, war?

I sure hope they don't take it away. Just like what thing1 said, there are certainly going to be riots and A LOT of angry people. The kick off, in my opinion, is probably one of the most important parts of the game. How would you be able to play the game without it? I don't think they will ever change that in the NFL. Even in three years.

Most likely not, the NFL has become so sissy-fied, that within 10 years it will just be flag football. A big reason for a lot of people to play football is the rough side of the sport, and kick-off can be pretty damn rough. But since that's exactly what they're looking to get rid of, yeah kick-offs will be gone real soon.

They better not or else my Bears lose an important piece to the team (Devin Hester returning for TDs). Not to mention if they do get rid of kick-offs, I can't imagine how else a football game will start; its not the same if they do the Coin flip and that team gets the ball on whatever yard line (most likely 20).

I say if they want to reduce the number of injuries caused on kickoffs, then reduce the number of players that can be on the field on the kickoffs.

That or do what teams do during a punt. Have most players on both sides line up close to the line of schrimage, have 3 or 4 "gunners" run down to get the guy who will receive the ball, and have the player develop like a punt play. You will most likely reduce full speed collisons between the players (that is most likely the chief reason why there is a demand for kickoff reform).

I for one am sick and tired these "player safety" demands. If your going to play football, then you KNOW that you are most likely are going to injured at one point during your career. Not to mention I'm sure these athletes have some outstanding Medical insurance policy that the NFL provides to them.

I'm wondering if Rugby players have similar demands, cause I've never heard any uproar for Rugby player safety.

I really hope they keep them. Kick offs can affect the outcome of a game and really increase the excitement of the fans watching. I always love watching a kick off return for a touchdown and to see if the ball carrier will fumble it away to the opposition. I have seen a few games that looked to be over only to be dramatically affected by a kick returner messing up and giving the opponents great field position late in a game. Well I like it as long as its not happening to the team I am cheering for of course.

I do think player safety is important, but its football. Football isn't meant to be played soft. Those players know that.

I think they they will. What will happen, next year they will get rid of them. They will go the next yea without them, they will loose a whole lot of popularity and money, and then they will bring them back. You know, because it is all about the money.
