Aww yeah! One thing I remember from the 90's is waking up on Saturday mornings and changing the channel to some Teenage mutant ninja turtles! It was probably one of the greatest Saturday morning cartoons of the 90's, The CGI one we have on nickelodeon isn't as good as the original, But It is still okay. I remember the turtles got a bunch of video games back then, they even got their own arcade game! I remember playing that at the old pizzeria down the street, but the one I am reviewing is Turtles in time for the SNES, Let's hope this is good! Story-7/10 The main plot behind this game is that one day the turtles are in their hideout watching the local news report with April'o'neil, But then the evil shredder comes out of nowhere and just steals the precious statue of liberty! It is now up to you to control the turtles through more then 5 big levels in order to retrieve it back! Gameplay-8/10 In this action side scroller beat'em'up, You take the control of Leo, Michael, Donny or Raph as you adventure through big levels beating up a bunch of enemies along the way, The turtles are armed with a bunch of special moves such as nunchucks, kicks, punches, etc. There are 5 or so game modes in the game, 1 player has you going through the game just by yourself, 2 player has you playing through the game with a friend, And I haven't really tried versus mode or time trial in a long time, so I forgot what those are. One thing about this game I like is that most of the characters from the comics appear as well, Such as the turtles, Baxter, shredder. Krang, bebop and rocksteady, etc. The controls are pretty simple for an SNES game, A is jump, and B X and Y do all your other attacks. The bosses in this game usually appear at the end of certain levels, Like Baxter appears in the first level, and so on. Graphics-8/10 I will be honest here, the game was made in 1992, And the graphics are really well done! Each of the levels you will be exploring in this game are big, beautiful, and bursting with color! As for the characters, they look pretty good as well, Leo looks like himself, Michael looks like himself, Donny looks like himself, And Raph does as well. The HUD in the game is pretty self explanatory, It shows how much health each of the turtles have, and their current score. The game also uses a funny effect where if you time your attack right, then you will make the enemy hit the actual screen! You don't get that kind of stuff in other video games! Well actually I think Smash bros has something like that, but oh well! Sound-8/10 Probably the best part of the game, the soundtrack! Right off the bat you get an awesome 16-bit rendition of the TMNT theme song! As for the actual game soundtrack, It is pretty upbeat and catchy to listen to as well, they all fit the mood of each level, Such as Big apple, alley cat blues, etc. The actual sound effects are the kicker here, You get a bunch of pows, bams, whacks, booms, etc. I know a good beat'em'up when I see It! You also get some character vocals from the turtles like when you get hurt by a spike, they say "Ow my toe!" And at the beginning of every level, a turtle also says the level name like "Alley cat blues!" Addictiveness-9/10 Is this a game that I am going to play again? Why of course! Good games like this always have me coming back for more and more. I do remember playing this game with a friend alot when I came back home from school, The game just has that certain charm that other licensed beat'em'ups do not have. Depth-7/10 One thing you should know about the game, It has quite alot of replay value! Like I said, The game has a 2-player mode, a time trial mode, a versus mode, etc. The game is also 9 levels long, So It will probably take you about 1-3 hours to play through It all. This is the perfect game to play with a friend! Difficulty-6/10 The game shouldn't give you that much trouble, I mean there is a difficulty level though, Easy medium and hard, I like playing on normal mode all the time, because I am quite an expert gamer! Yet some levels can give me alot of trouble though! Overall-9.5/10 So in general, If you need a good licensed beat'em'up for the SNES, I highly suggest this one! It has alot of charm, depth and fun to keep you coming back for more and more! I gave this game a 9.5 because how much fun it is, and the amount of content It offers. So go buy this one!
