Disclaimer - This is a non-profit Pokemon Crystal fan fiction. I do not own Pokemon Crystal. Pokemon Crystal is a product of:

Nintendo
Game Freak
Creatures Inc.
The Pokemon Company

I do not own nor am I affiliated with any of the above companies.

*Note - I had this scene in my head while playing Pokemon Crystal here on Vizzed. I decided to make a story out of it.

~

I became a Pokemon Champion not too long ago; however, I've already lost that title. There are indeed far more skillful trainers out there besides me. Even though I'm no longer a champion, I've experienced many things on my journey that I feel are worth more than the title. This story is about one of those experiences.

-

After finally reaching the end of Ilex Forest, I was greeted with fiery battles by the locals of the city. They all boasted about how Goldenrod city is a wonderful place to be at. I wasn't surprised, there were many places of interest that would attract different kinds of people to the city; mine being the Goldenrod Department Store.

I visited the department store after resting at the Pokemon Center. I was casually browsing their products while mingling with the shoppers and cashiers. One of the shoppers I talked to asked if I had an Abra I could trade for his Machop. I didn't at the moment, but I did remember that the resident told me that their Gym-Leader uses Normal-type Pokemon. I couldn't pass up this opportunity, so I told him that I'll find an Abra and trade with him.

I went back south of Goldenrod city, where most people living in the city would train there Pokemon. My Pokedex had told me that there were a small percentage of Abras living around the area. I looked desperately for the Pokemon, but all I could find were Rattatas. And then finally, an Abra!

The Abra was preparing to teleport away from me, but I couldn't let it get away. So I quickly took out a random Poke ball and threw it at the Abra's head, causing it to lose focus. Luckily, the Pokemon that came out was my trusty Poliwag. I commanded Poliwag to use hypnosis before the Abra could flee. I threw a Great ball in hopes of capturing the sleeping creature. At last! The Pokemon had been caught now I can trade it for the much needed Machop.

I went back to the department store and met up with the young man who wanted an Abra. He became excited when I told him that I caught the Pokemon. He asked if I still wanted his Machop for the Abra; I told him, "If I didn't want it, I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of getting it." I took out my Pokedex to prepare for our trade.

Prior to our trade, the young man informed me about his Machop being named 'Muscle'. It was not a problem. After all, I only wanted it to be able to defeat Gym-Leader Whitney. I told him that the name was very 'fitting'.

We commenced our trade via my Pokedex. The machine took each Pokemon's information and matched it with our ID numbers. That way, the traded Pokemon will be able to recognize its new owner. I noticed something particularly odd about the Machop being sent. When we received our new Pokemon, the young man took out his Abra from the Poke ball. I did the same.

"Alright! Thanks so much for the Abra, ma'am," he exclaimed.

"Say," I started. "Why'd you name your Machop 'Muscle' anyways?"

"Huh? Well, 'cause he's strong! He can lift a couch with just one hand!"

I couldn't help but snerk at the answer.

"What's so funny?" he questioned.

I took out my Pokedex and faced it towards Muscle. The Pokedex read aloud:

Species - Machop

Name - Muscle

Level - 10

IDno. - xxxxx

Original Trainer - Mike

Gender - Female

I stopped my Pokedex and repeated that last part:

Gender - Female

I glanced at Mike and saw him with his mouth wide open. Seeing his silly expression, I couldn't help but let out a hysterical laughter at the hilarity of the situation. I had to lean on the nearest counter in order to balance myself.

Mike's face was beet red; he was embarrassed that his Machop's a girl. Muscle looked really frustrated. She took a pen from the counter and threw it at me at full force. Fortunately, my reaction told me to duck. If I hadn't it would've been a very bad ending for me. Muscle ran down the stairs to get away.

I was still quite shock from dodging the pen, which cracked the wall, and had to calm down before I could stand again. Mike helped me up and I tried to compose myself. After recovering from the pen-attack, I ran down the stairs to catch up with Muscle.

Several people I interviewed told me that they saw a distressed Machop charging down the stairs. When I reached the first floor, the shoppers told me that they saw the same Machop locking itself in the elevator. I got annoyed thinking about if Muscle went to the highest floor; however, the information clerk told me about the basement being only accessible through the elevator. So I decided to start my search there.

I encountered three men and a Machoke down at the basement. The men tried to shoo me away, but I persisted on searching for Muscle. I searched high and low in the Goldenrod Department Store basement for her, until I finally found her behind one of the large cargoes. I could not reach her because the space between the wall and the cargo were really close together. But I still insisted on persuading her to come out.

"Muscle?" I called out. "Come on, get out of there."

No response.

"I'm really sorry for laughing at you earlier. Please come out."

No response.

"It's really cramped in there, you know? I bet you're hungry too."

Muscle poked out to look at me. Her dubious gesture showed in the petite, but powerful body of hers. I gently caressed her head and softly apologized to her once more: "I'm sorry."

She came out of the narrow gap, feeling more comfortable. I carried her in my arms, like I would with a child; and kissed her forehead, like I would with a child. After all, she is only a child.

I've gone through many trials and errors, and it shaped me into the person I am today. The biggest flaw that I've learned to conquer was judging Pokemon based on statistics. Each and every Pokemon are different, even if they are the same species; have the same abilities; the same faces; or the same personalities. Physically, they are much stronger than humans. Yet, they are just as fragile in terms of emotions. This was the lesson I learned while bonding with Muscle.

After beating Whitney, I started caring for Muscle much more than I had intended to do so. We faced many challenges together, and we became stronger after each one. Our time together is very precious to me, whether they be good or bad.

Muscle became one of the strongest Pokemon I've ever raised. She evolved into a Machoke soon after we defeated Gym-Leader Jasmine and the newly discovered Steel-type Pokemon of hers. Muscle's vigorous strength was the key to our victory against the Elite 4. Despite having a muscular and intimidating appearance, she has a very gentle and caring nature. In fact, she developed maternal instincts towards me after her evolution. It's funny; it's as if our roles were reversed.

Once I lost the Champion title, I thought about returning home. However, I remembered the promise with Professor Oak about capturing as many Pokemon as possible. On the verge of fulfilling that promise, I walk along side with Muscle and look forward to our new experiences together.
