Depends on how you look at each franchise, Mario is certainly hands down the most succesful video game franchise, but If ou look at Pokemon, you see that there are multiple great games, but those games spawned an anime. Then the anime spawned a TCG, various movies (and don't say that Mario had a movie as well... That never happened...), and graphic novels, and childrens chapter books, and various plush toys and other games that span every catagory, and I could go on forever on how much junk Pokemon has spit out. All in all, Pokemon is the most succesful franchise but not neccesarily the best franchise. and even the best franchise is based solely on opinions of the users. money can be counted, the joy collected from thousands of hours spend playing the game you've loved most of your life, cannot be measured in any scale.
