Back in 1996, Nintendo released Mario's first ever RPG game, Titled Super Mario RPG, Then in 2001 Nintendo released once again ANOTHER Mario RPG, This one was called Paper Mario, It was quite possibly one of the best RPGs I have played in a while! Then in 2003, we got a Mario RPG for Game boy advance, This is Mario and Luigi superstar saga for The Game boy advance, will this RPG please me? Or will it give me a sour reaction? Let's find out....
Story-9/10 The game begins with these dude and his assistant arriving at mushroom kingdom to bring a special surprise from the queen bean to Princess toadstool, But do not be fooled! This is a big act of deceit! These two people are actually 2 evil villains named Cackeletta and fawful! Fawful uses some sort of device to suck up a smoke life substance, which engulf Peach's voice. The two run off with her voice. Meanwhile back at Mario's pad, Luigi is sorting out clothes when toad walks by asking Where our hero is. Luigi cannot do anything about it. Toad easedrops on Mario singing in the shower, Toad once agains tells him about the princess and what is happening to her, So they get dressed and run to the castle, they battle bowser, Mario gets ready to leave the koopa boat when Luigi says his final Bye, Bowser feels sad for Luigi, so he lets him tag along with them. And so the quest begins....
Gameplay-8/10 Mario and Luigi super star saga is your typical RPG, you take control of 2 or more characters, you walk around a big field do side quests and every once in a while, ingage in battle with a certain amount of enemies, That's RPG for you. Except the battle system in this game is WAY more complex then your average RPG, the first thing you should notice is that in battles, you can actually dodge your certain opponent's attack! I actually like this feature! It makes the game feel way more different then other RPGS at the time. Like all other RPGs also, the game lets you level up as you defeat enemies and make more progress. You can upgrade stats such as health, defense, speed, etc. I like how the battle system and level up system works in this game! Also in battles, when jumping on enemies, pressing the A button when jumping on the opponent to do extra damage!
Graphics-9/10 I say, props to Nintendo for finally making brand new sprites exclusively for this game! I think the graphics, worlds, and locales you'll be exploring and seeing are VERY VERY colorful, bright and bursting with atmposhere. Man Nintendo! You guys just never fail to impress me here! The HUD in each battle is self explanatory also, You have Mario and Luigi's stats, The action commands, And your Opponent current stats.
Sound-8/10 Ah the soundtrack, My favorite part of the game, All the music is pretty catchy and upbeat. Nintendo never fails on making a good soundtrack for good games! As for the sound effects, they are pretty good too, Except for one thing, they can get repetitive a little, and I say a LITTLE. But other then that, It's still pretty awesome for a Game boy advance game...
Addictiveness-8/10 This game is very fun to play through multiple times, I mean my favorite part of the game is leveling up your two heroes, I think I once even got 70 HP for both Mario and Luigi! The battles are even better! Even though they take quite alot of time to get used to, Mostly dodging your opponent's attacks.
Depth-9/10 This game is VERY VERY long, There are alot of things to do and collect, Making the game feel really big and bursting with depth, The game is over 8 worlds long, So it will proabally take you 7 hours to complete, granting you get as much things as you can.
Difficulty-8/10 Oh the difficulty, this is in my opinion, one of this game's HIGHEST points, It is mostly the boss battles that can really get the best of me! The boss battles can drag on to over 7 minutes at least! That's quite long, espicaly Cackeletta's soul, That was a nightmare....I seriously do not want to do that again....
Overall-8.7/10 In general, BUY this game, It is one of the greatest RPGs you can get on the market for your GBA today! I gave this game an 8.7 simply because how fun it is and how much it offers. So buy this game now!
