I thought this was quite interesting.
IVF is a method of fertilisation comonly used for people who are infertile.
This has been done for years with varying degrees of debate on the practice.

Now however, the proccess can be done to help remove inherent mitochondrial problems. These can cause problems with sight, hearing muscles, organs, growth and several other factors. With 3 person IVF people who have these problems can have a child which WONT inherit this. As yet its not really major modification, the proccess involves removing the male and female pro nuclei from the original egg (the egg contains the mitochondrial cells), and are then injected into a donor egg that has had its pro nuclei removed. Since the mitochondrial has some dna in it, it means the child will be born with dna from 3 people. As stated in the news article, mitochondrial has a very small amount of DNA though.
This is basic cut and paste treatment really, however it does offer the possibility that in the future, we can remove other undesirable genetic inheritance.

I saw this on the news the other day , I think that although it could be considered ethical the benefit to the child would far outweigh these issues, however the second we start to genetically alter humans will start a downward spiral which could lead to so called designer babies. Another issue is that here haven't been any human trials yet so the first few people to receive the treatment will be undergoing a lot of risk.
