Introduction: Hi vizzed It's time for me to review another game, and quite frankly I haven't made a Review In a while, Anyways This game is Mortal kombat Trilogy For the Sony Playstation, A upgraded conversion of The original Mortal kombat 3, as far as I know this Game was Also supposed to be replacing Ulimate mortal kombat 3 or At least out do it, This game wasn't A all system release, a far as I know Mortal kombat Trilogy is a Exclusive Update of Mortal kombat 3 or Umk3, Which was only released on the Nintendo 64, Sega saturn, and The Playstation port of this game , Which I am reviewing.
(Not sure why, but eh chunk loads of Lag coming you're way when playing this game, I really have no Exact clue or reason as to why playstation 1 games work, but they are laggy. I'd normally understand it, If Mortal Kombat trilogy was a 3d fighter, Because 3d fighters seem to lag on vizzed as well, but this fighter was actually A noble 2d fighting classic. so really, This game is laggy like the other ps1 games for some odd reason)
Gameplay:9/10 The Gameplay of Mortal kombat trilogy, is still the same as Mortal kombat 3, considering this game was 1 of the few new updates to the game , that took right after Ulimate Mortal Kombat 3,Anyways I will go ahead and explain the basics of this game. Mortal Kombat 3 Didn't exactly share the same Fighting system as Mortal Kombat 1 and 2, as Mortal Kombat 3 had a new and a revamped fighting system, to be more hasty and programmable Like virtua fighter, Killer instinct, and so on and so forth. Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 were mainly juggle combo based games, as Where Mortal kombat 3 in general had you to memorize mutil button combos, that would take up a boat load of damage on you're foes, Anyways That's how this game mainly worked out in gameplay.
Load times: 10/10 Really on a game with so many characters as long as this, You would think there would be a long amount of loading times right? Well Actually The reason I've rated the loading times a 10/10, is because even though there are constant loading times between each matches, each of the loading takes about 5 or 10 seconds, so really this doesn't take all that long to load at all.
graphics: 10/10 Really for mkt I can't really complain or say all that much, This game graphically shares the same sprite coding and looks of the original Mortal kombat 3, but with much more characters to be added. (sprites: Really I like how much thinner and More sharp and crisp the sprites have looked, over the previous 2 mortal kombat games, Every character looks very well detailed and looks pretty pleasant for the time this was released,( Stages: As far as the Stages of this game goes, I can't really complain too much, Because Mortal kombat trilogy was also a bit of a compilation update of mk3. So In this game it features all of the stages from mk3 which looked really nice, and Midway even managed to put in some of the classic stages from Mortal kombat 1 and 2. And really they look perfectly the same, so in the graphics compartment of this game I can't really complain because it's very well done.
Sound 10/10 The only few differences, that I can spot in this game over mk3, Is that some of the sound effects have a slight higher pitch I'm not sure why, but it indeed sounds like that, anyways you've got all you're basic screams fatality and other stuff etc, All of the characters also have many reused voice samples, but that's not to say it's a bad thing since they had tried to fit some of the classic characters and classic version of characters in this game, and I'll give midway credit for that, because they rather did a good job. (Soundtrack: Most of the songs from Mortal kombat 3 are included, only 1 difference that I found to be from this and the original versions of the soundtrack, is that midway slowed the soundtrack down, and changed the pitch of the tunes somewhat, Some theme's are also changed differently such as the theme's from mk2, Example: The kombat tomb now has the armory theme and the kombat tomb theme is placed at the portal stage now, in other words Good sound and good soundtrack.
Addictiveness: With so many characters stages and a good fighting style how can Mortal Kombat Trilogy not be addicting, I would mainly find this game addicting for Custom combos mixed with special moves to kick major butt, I also enjoy Some of the challenge this game has to offer. .
Story:6/10 I can't really Explain the main storyline of this game due to.. umm spoilers, so if you want the main storyline or plot of this game you will have to play this game or look it up, However I will explain the main objective, Shao Khan is basically trying to do another scheme to try and rule earthrealm, and you have to pick a character, go through a tower with many fights, and become the champion by defeating shao khan.
Depth:7/10 There are a few modes That allow you to do some things such as 8 way tournament and others stuff, but really unfornately that's only for 2 players, So as for 1 player mode depth This game doesn't take all that long if you are quite good at this game. You have a good amount of towers that have a certain amount of fights and endurance matches which can be somewhat of a pain to deal with.
Difficulty:6/10 as far as Mkt's difficulty goes. I'm not exactly 100 percent sure why this game was considered to be harder then Mortal kombat 3, because to me, This game is equally as hard as it's original counterpart. The ai difficulty will get harder depending on which mode you play even if it's on nobel difficulty, because like all good fighting games, like this 1, It's pretty easy, but then It punishes you later on during you're winning streak.
Overall mkt is a good fighting game, with loads of stuff to do, and in general This game is a classic update to Mk3,It has good visuals, neat fighting style, good difficulty, and nice music. Overall rating 9.9
