I am just going to start this off simply. I don't like this game.  You heard me. I don't like it. I, Opti do NOT like Super Mario World on the SNES. I found it boring and not much to see. I mean, What can I say? Its just a platformer and a pretty clunky one if that. Lets get straight to the overview as I tell you why.

GRAPHICS
I don't know why this game is said to have good graphics for SNES. They lack detail and sometimes even color. If you don't believe me just compare it to super metroid. Anyway I found that the graphics were too simplistic and were really lacking compared to titles that came out around the same time.

SOUND
I found it annoying. The sound effects sound thrown together and are really annoying sometimes. The music is generic and boring. The only reason a lot of people like it is because of nostalgia. Annoying and boring.

ADDICTIVENESS
Nothing really to come back too.

STORY
Stay back fanboys, I am about to go into a full blown mario rant. Okay, Look this would be... what? the 4th time they used the same generic story line? And they are still using it today? FOR GODS SAKE. Look, if you are going to make a new game.. Make a different story line mkay?


DEPTH
Not much to do.

DIFFICULTY
Every single time you die in this game you thing "Well that was cheap." because the game littered with confusing and irritating level designs. Its terrible. This is the main problem with the game. Its really cheap and full of beginners traps. (Bullet bill in first level)

CONCLUSION
So now you have learnt something. It is possible for someone to not like Super Mario World. Shoot me. However there were some things I liked about the game. Such as the power-ups. They were all interesting ideas and generally fun too use. Also the bosses were nice. But that's really it.

Don't worry, an opinion is an opinion, I won't shoot ya.

Although, your negative review actually made me inclined to try this game out. I'll get back on you on this game. It's refreshing to see someone write a legitimate negative review though. Although, the fact that this game still received a 4.5 from you, implies that there are still positive qualities about this game for you, but I didn't read anything about them in this review. Try to go a little bit more into detail in your reviews, then they'd be great!

Just wondering: when did you first play the game? You profile says you're 13, so you probably had a PS2 as you first console or better.

I admit that the story is lame; it's just a succession of levels in order to rescue the princess. However, trying to get all 96 levels is quite a challenge and I found it addictive. Also, graphic wise, it was such an improvement from Super Mario 3. Enemies are more detailed, and the whole screen is used. Finally, although the music (especially overworld) loops too quickly, it was still good for its time

janus : Believe it or not. The first console I ever played was a SNES. And before you assume I am another graphics whore who plays call of duty 24/7, I have great respect for retro games. In fact I am making up for an N64.

I am not a graphic whore myself. In fact, it's usually one of the last things I look at (except Secret of the Stars; many NES games look better than it). However, Super Mario World was one of the first games for SNES; Super Metroid was launched in 1994, when technology was better exploited

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  I won't shun you for your thoughts on the game.  One thing you need to work on in your reviews is making more detail.  You should try to add a bit more detail into your reviews.  Good luck on your next review.

janus : You are correct. However jump back into the year 1991 and you will find Sonic the Hedgehog which happens to look a lot more detailed and colourful than Super Mario World.

Opti101 : I can appreciate people that think for themselves. I personally find all Sonic games terribly boring, but not many people seem to agree. Thank you for sharing a unique opinion, and not just copycatting. It is genuinely refreshing to see someone with a mind of their own.

That said, you need to be careful of your language, The "D word" used in your opening post is considered a swear word, which is against Forum rules. Could you edit that for me, please? I would also caution you against use of terms like you used in your reply to Janus. The "W word" is also a swear word by most people's standards.

Wow that review was great maybe I will play that game lately  I have been in game reviews and have been looking at reviews and I have not found to many good ones because they are all newbie there are so many making reviews I don't know if there is some sort of jersey the newbies are trying to get of something but about your review this was a great one keep up and make some more because I am in desperate need for a game and that is why I have been looking in game reviews lately but for future reference make your review longer a lot of people have been making short reviews but that's ok oh and make sure to check out G@mehe@ds reviews just to see a really nice review to me they are pro but wait this is about your reviews not the newbies and G@mehe@d. So your review next time make the paragraphs longer like at least 2 lines but I guess this is the end of this reply so p p p p p p peace!
