I'm about to play Pokemon Crystal when I see missing letters when I start my new game. Like when Prof. Oak asks if I'm a boy or girl, the word "boy" has the letter Y missing and the word girl has the letter L missing. Is there any way that I can fix, or do I just have to wait it out?

Did you try making the emulator window larger?  It sounds like your window might be too small, like it usually is on mine.  Try selecting the bottom right corner of the window and dragging it out!
