thats the same for a lot of countrys though. rivers in scotland used to be frozen for months, curling was a nationsl sport.
and at one point england was a orime wine growing region. climate is forever changing

Now that I think of it, there was at one point during that time a "mini-ice age" which was a colder period in whole Europe for some years. Maybe that helped also. But never mind and whatever the case, the Breughel family had lots of awesome painters and I love their work. As off topic as it is.
